no a bluetooth! in the scene in 1x02 (today’s rewatch episode - everyone should join in/check out the official twrewatch blog!) there’s a scene where stiles is talking to her and he thinks she’s nodding/smiling at him but really she’s on a phone call on her bluetooth - the earpiece thing. he just can’t see it bc it’s underneath her hair. anyhoo to my knowledge people don’t really use bluetooths so much anymore (i usually just see it on businessmen).

she might also have a blackberry though i didn’t notice...

I just looked through my 800 pieces of artwork under my bed and couldn't find it so that means it's at my mom's house where the rest of my thousands of artwork are :( but i'll go through it when i visit my mom's and then post it

omg yes i love this! I think if you've dropped verbal language, body movement and expression is all you have left. You could have Tom try to teach him some rough sign language. Not ASL but just connecting certain gestures to certain meanings

Perhaps your merpeople have a concept of pictoral representation? Perhaps they draw symbols in the sand under the sea, like pictograms or hieroglyphics, and Chris can adapt it to something they can both understand? Like stick figure drawing?

I remember you talking about this fic omg I'm so glad you're going to publish it! <3 Anyway, maybe he could point at things and move objects, while slowly developing a sign language with Tom attributing a meaning to a given gesture.

Asl - learning signs for different things, eg if Tom brought flash cards with fish on them then Chris could learn to sign sign 'fish' and so on, or the other way around or something xx

Maybe he could draw things into the sand at the beach? Or with touching etc. because how cute would it be if certain things would mean different things in their cultures? Pointing at things/bringing stuff to explain/express things could also work c:

I've already used some of them in the original draft of the fic, but this was very useful <3 I want merman!Chris to be a little more animalistic than your average fairy tale mermaids, but he will still be able to understand most things Tom communicates to him. And I can't believe I forgot this fic existed for almost six months! I'm gonna try to work on it during the holidays :)
