Okay, I had a very nice, good thing happen to me in the midst of working today as a caregiver.
One person was having stomach issues in the residence I work at, so on the side of caution, we decided to take him to the ER for a check. Before entering to sign in, you have to have any bags searched and go through a metal detector with security.
Well, I had my bag with me, and I handed it to the security guard that was an older gentleman, and walked through the metal detector.... Completely forgetting Stan(my plush) was in my bag. The guard opened it, and I began to panic, as he said:
"What a cute, sweet little friend you got."
And he tilted Stan's little head up, and said further: "I understand...Sometimes you need an emotional support friend to carry or be with you. But he's very nice."
Being a 36 year old with an insane love of a cartoon and fictional character, I was terrified I was going to be made fun of and given a disapproving look of repulsion. But, a sweet, older man was understanding and kind more than he needed to be today, and I appreciate him for that. Today was a shit show, and that kindness resonates with me.
