I'm pretty much enjoying this tome—it offers a long and uncanny yet enthralling, multifaceted adventure. Almost all of the stories are interesting; however, I must say that a few of them are just too absurd or obscure. Besides, I skimmed through most of "The Unparalleled Adventure of Hans One Pfaall" and "The Journal of Julius Rodman", an unfinished novel, both of which I think were not interesting enough to force myself to read thoroughly as there were more celebrated stories in the further pages which I was looking forward to. But still, #Poe's excellent imagination, wit and masterly plots shine through many of the stories, such as "#TheFallOfTheHouseOfUsher", "#TheMurdersInTheRueMorgue", "#TheMasqueOfTheRedDeath", "#WilliamWilson", and "#TheManThatWasUsedUp". ~ «Funds even the most ample, are not always everlasting…» (King Pest) ~ «… I know not how it was—but, with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit. You ever read a fic where the author is like, "apparently this is gonna be a three chaptered story instead of a oneshot", but when you look at the chapter count its 20+. You naive being.

I have been enjoying this coming-of-age novel so much that it has already become one of my favourite reads of the year. The novel has taken a captivating turn especially since the introduction of Uriah Heep, an unforgettable example of Dickens' excellent and interesting characterization, as well as Agnes Wickfield, Rosa Dartle, Dora Spenlow, Miss Mowcher and Doctor Strong, all of who make the novel even more interesting and gripping than the infancy and early childhood of David. Earlier characters, such as Betsey Trotwood, Mr. Dick, Mr. Peggotty, Clara Peggotty, Ham and Little Emily, still hold an important place in the novel, and there are surprise reappearances as well. You can find lots of characters that feel like true friends in this lifelike, panoramic novel, as well as those you will despise. ~ «... I should always love her, every minute, to distraction.
