A Scent Like No Other

Summary:  When Sting was younger his dragon told him he had a soulmate and he would easily recognize him by his scent. Now, Sting ventures from town to town doing his best to survive on his own, but always searching for that one person made just for him.

Please, don’t make me do this! I have no one else.

Sting, your journey is just beginning. Even though it might not feel like it now, you won’t be alone for long. There is someone out there the universe made just for you, a soulmate. For me? But how will I know who they are?

You will know them by their scent. Even though you will encounter other smells that will call for your attention, your soulmate will have a scent like no other. They will know you as well, and once you find each other, you will want for nothing.

I'll miss you, Weisslogia. And I you, little one. Be strong and may the gods smile upon you. Now, become a true dragon slayer.

Sting woke up from yet another nightmare of killing his foster father. Over the years it had become a bit easier. He'd finally grown to accept that in the end, it had been a merciful death. Nowadays he thought more of the words Weisslogia had told him.

Sting tried to hold on to the hope the words gave him, but it was hard. Ever since he'd somehow woken up in front of a huge gate, the world had been nothing but a myriad of loud sounds and unpleasant smells.

He'd fended for himself as best he could, but he'd yet to meet too many people that would go out of their way to be kind to a young boy on his own. Sting had already escaped several situations where people initially appeared kind but changed their tune once they'd gained his trust, demanding grueling work for little food, while others had tried to beat him into submission. So he managed on his own, scrounging for food and finding defensible places to sleep.

One day he sauntered into a town, and as he walked through, a group of boys took offense to him. They came at him, fighting him with not much skill but a lot of anger. There was a faint smell that caught his attention, but he didn't think much of it at first, too busy defending himself from the unprovoked attack. Sting had learned early on from his first scuffle some months earlier that he was a lot stronger than most boys and he could easily hurt them if he wasn't careful.

It wasn't that he particularly cared for their well being, he'd just learned the hard way it would bring the wrong sort of attention. It was only after he'd immobilized all of his attackers that Sting was able to find the source of the scent. It was a small cat, but different than a typical housecat. For one, he could use a type of magic that gave him access to wings, allowing him to fly. He could also talk, and he did so often and loudly. He informed Sting that his name was Lector and he didn't really stop talking after that. Lector was loud, and a bit of a braggart, but Sting loved him on sight. From that day on, they traveled together, each gaining strength and confidence from the other.

It was nice to have company, Sting was able to show affection to another being again and receive it in return. He was content even though, more often than not, Lector got him in trouble. His constant bragging of Sting's fighting skills to anyone who would listen had earned Sting many a fight from people who wanted to test their strength against his.  As much as Sting wanted to yell at Lector to stop, he couldn't. Sting knew that Lector was proud of him and he didn't mean any harm. On occasion it even earned them some jewels, allowing them to eat better than usual.

Today was one of those days, Sting had some jewels in his pocket, it wasn't a lot, but it was enough to buy them some food. They followed the mouth-watering smell of food towards the market of the village they were currently walking through. Sting immediately grew alert as a strong scent caught his attention, it was somehow a combination of all of the things Sting liked the most, and he hurried towards it, only to be knocked flat on his back by a dark-haired boy who looked to be no older than him.

The boy got up quickly, holding a loaf of bread to his chest. He muttered an apology before looking behind him and running as fast as he could away from the market. Sting had still not gotten up, the wind knocked out of him not by the fall but by the realization that the scent that had drawn him came from the boy. His heartbeat quickened in his chest as he remembered Weisslogia’s words.

Sting looked behind him to see what the boy had been so afraid of and spied a large man running towards him and yelling Thief. Quickly understanding the situation, Sting stuffed his hand in his pocket and grabbed his jewels throwing them at the man and running in the direction the boy had gone. He ignored Lector’s outraged cries about their missed meal and set about tracking the enticing scent.

The boy must have been a fast runner because Sting had to follow the scent all the way to the woods that were just outside of the town. Given his enhanced senses Sting was able to locate him while he was still a fair distance away. The boy sat underneath a copse of trees, tearing chunks of bread from the stolen loaf and feeding them to a cat that looked somewhat like Lector, although it was green in color.

Before Sting could get any closer, the boy lifted his head and scented the air, a joyful look blooming across his features as he put the loaf down on a small blanket to get up and walk towards Sting.

They met in the middle and stared at each other, wide-eyed and open mouthed, before saying at the exact same time.

It’s you!

Sting laughed and introduced himself, “I’m Sting,”

Rogue smiled warmly, “I’m Rogue.”

Rogue grabbed Sting's hand and led him back to the blanket his cat was sitting at. They sat down, and Rogue immediately broke off a large chunk of bread from his loaf and handed it over to his new friend.

From that moment on Sting and Rogue remained together, their bond growing stronger by the day and as Weisslogia had foretold they wanted for nothing.

Stingue headcanon

• They were together long before Sting became master. Everyone knew but never said anything about it, and as long as they were doing their job, Jiemma pretty much ignored them.

• They kept intimate contact for when they were alone, and no one would have found out if Sting didn't have a jealousy crisis when Yukino first arrived at the Guild and choose Rogue to be friends with. (Turned out that in the end she was into Minerva and Sting just made a fool of himself).

• When the guild was finally safe enough for them to be openly out, Rogue was, surprisingly, the one who was more content about it. Mainly because they could be themselves, and he didn't have to hold back when the urge to have physical contact with Sting came.

• Rogue is the clingy one and Sting is perfectly fine with it.

• They used to sleep in two differents room. Partly because they already lived together, and even if they love each other, they felt like it was the best thing to do, to keep a little privacy. In the end Sting was the one who decide to settle in Rogue's room, because he felt lonely without him. Rogue never complained, and they keep it that way until now, giving Sting's room to their exceeds.

• They've known each other since childhood. They have always lived with each other, but that doesn't mean they work perfectly together. After almost ten years, Rogue still finds himself yelling at Sting for the clothes he never bothered to put in the dirty laundry hamper in the bathroom. Sting keeps pestering Rogue to do his dishes, because he always forgets.

• Rogue helps Sting with Master's work, mostly paper things since the blond has zero patience. In return Sting surprisingly managed to hold the guild in one piece and deal with the council (even if there's always a disaster somehow).

• Sting always find Rogue passed out on the desk at the end of the day, and he always make a point to pick his boyfriend up and bring him home without waking him.

• Sting would change him into more confortable clothes before joining him in the bed and Rogue always manages to move until he's pratically on top of Sting. Sting loves it when that happens.

• Rogue is a tea person, but he'll drink coffee when necessary. Sting however, drinks his coffee with so much sugar, creamer, whipped cream, and other sweets that it cann't be called coffee anymore.

• Sting also likes energy drinks, but Rogue won't let him have them. It's a disaster waiting to happen

• Rogue likes to paint his nails and Sting likes to wear eyeliner. They both learned from Natsu when they were kids.

• The first time they kissed, Sting missed and hit the corner of Rogue's mouth. In his defense, they were both sleep deprived.

• When they tell the other slayers they're dating, they learn that all of them already knew. "You've been all over each other since you were kids."

• Sting wears crocs unironically. Rogue hates it

• Natsu and Rogue would straight up cry at how much of a fashion disaster he is

• Rogue as a piercing on his belly button because he lost a stupid bet to Sting. It's a little dragon. Rogue also has his ears pierced, and he wears the matching earring to Sting's on the side his bangs hide.

• Ils étaient ensemble bien avant que Sting soit Maître. Tout le monde était au courant mais personne n'a jamais rien dit et tant qu'ils faisaient leur travail Jiemma ne leur accordait pas d'attention particulière.

• Ils gardaient les contacts intimes pour quand ils étaient seuls et personne n'aurait rien su de leur relation si Sting n'avait pas fait une crise de jalousie à l'arrivé de Yukino à la guilde et qu'elle avait choisi Rogue comme ami (Au final elle était plus intéressée par Minerva et Sting s'est ridiculisé).

• Quand la guilde fut enfin un endroit où ils pouvaient être ensemble librement, Rogue en fut le plus heureux. principalement parce que maintenant ils pouvaient être eux-mêmes et qu'il n'avait plus à se retenir lorsque l'envie d'avoir Sting contre lui se faisait sentir.

• Rogue est le plus câlin des deux et cela est parfaitement Ok avec Sting.

• Ils avaient pour habitude de dormir dans deux chambres différentes. Principalement par rapport au fait qu'ils ont toujours vécu ensemble et que même si ils s'aiment, ils pensaient que c'était la meilleure chose à faire afin de garder un peu d'intimité. À la fin Sting fut celui qui vint s'installer dans la chambre de Rogue, se sentant seul sans son petit ami. Ils donnèrent la chambre de Sting à leurs exceeds.

• Ils se connaissent depuis l'enfance et ont toujours vecu ensemble mais cela ne veut pas dire qu'ils sont parfait ensemble. Après presque dix ans, Rogue se retrouvent toujours à crier après Sting à propos des vêtements qu'il laissent trainer partout et dont il ne prend pas la peine de mettre au sale. Et Sting continue à rouspéter après Rogue pour qu'il fasse les vaisselles qu'il oubli toujours de faire.

• Rogue aide Sting avec son poste en tant que Maître, principalement de la paperasse, puisque Sting n'a aucune patience. Et en échange Sting s'occupe étonnamment bien de garder la guilde en état et gère le Conseil. (Même si d'une manière ou d'une autre, il y a toujours un peu de chaos).

• Sting finit toujours par retrouver Rogue endormi sur le bureau. Il veille toujours à porter son petit ami jusqu'à leur domicile sans le réveiller.

• Sting le changera dans des vêtements plus confortable avant de le rejoindre dans le lit. À chaque fois Rogue trouve alors une manière de se retrouver pratiquement au dessus de Sting. Et ce dernier adore quand il le fait.

• Rogue préfère le thé même si il lui arrive de boire du café. Sting cependant, boit son café avec tellement de sucre, crème et autre sucreries qu'on ne peut plus vraiment appelé cela un café.

• Sting est accro aux boissons énergisantes mais Rogue veille à ce qu'il n'en ait pas. C'est un véritable désastre autrement.

• Rogue aime se faire les ongles et Sting met du eyeliner. Ils ont tout deux appris cela de Natsu quand ils étaient plus jeunes.

• La première fois qu'ils se sont embrassés, Sting avait raté les lèvres de Rogue. Pour sa défense ils étaient tout deux épuisés.

• Quand ils ont annoncé aux autres Chasseurs de Dragons qu'ils étaient ensemble, ils ont appris que leur petit secret n'en était finalement pas un "vous étiez toujours accroché l'un à l'autre depuis tout petit".

• Sting porte des crocs. Rogue déteste profondément cela.

• Rogue et Natsu se plaignent toujours du manque de style de Sting.

• Rogue a un piercing au nombril, à cause d'un pari stupide avec Sting, qu'il a perdu. C'est un petit Dragon. Il a également un anneau semblable à celui de Sting à l'oreille mais sa mèche cache le Bijou.

ShadowLight week 2019 - Cuddles

There was almost no light when Sting woke up. The sun hadn’t even risen yet, there was only a grey light entering through the window. He groaned before rubbing his eyes to try to wake up a bit more. He rolled to one side slowly, trying to be sneaky before sitting up on his side of the bed and stretching his back, while yawning.

It was then that two slim but muscular arms slid by his sides, wrapping him in a loose hug. A chin dropped on his shoulder, followed by a soft humming sound.

“What are you doing up so early?” Sting asked, his voice low.

“Could ask… hmm… the same,” Came the answer, a bit slurred by sleep.

“You know what I am doing. I need to go to work.”

“Don't go.” It made Sting smile and sigh.

“I can't not go.”

“You can. There's nothing to do.”

“There's always something to do.”

“Not today.” Rogue gave him a short kiss on the neck before hugging him closer. “Stay.”

And as much as Sting might feel guilty later, it was true that there was nothing urgent waiting for him at the guild, and he was nothing but weak for his boyfriend, so the answer came easily to his lips.

“Okay.” He let himself be dragged back into bed. “Just a few hours.”

“Good,” Rogue mumbled before curling at his side, his arm and head over Sting’s chest.

“What's up? You are cuddly today.”

“Nothing. I love you. Sleep.”

“Oh. Okay” It would be a lie to say Sting wasn't a bit overwhelmed by Rogue’s tenderness this morning. It didn't matter how many years had passed, sometimes it still took him by surprise. So, he gave Rogue a light kiss on the top of his head before settling back into bed and closing his eyes. A few more hours of sleep sounded really fine.

Stingue Week

Day 7: AU- Dragonfication

- This was made as an inspiration to my favorite verse entiled White Dragon Rises where Sting experiences the changes of becoming a white dragon due to his father Weisslogia's antibodies (the source) no longer there when he left his body. As long as his mind maintains his humanity in all aspects and he controls his emotions he can maintain the balance and avoid the grim fate of being completely turned. Only the absolute trust and his close bond with Rogue, his twin dragon will make him prevail.
