My first time seeing - and photographing - a stinkhorn. I was so excited I may have done a little jump and squeal!

There was a stinkhorn mushroom (? Phallus rubicundus) in one of my plant pots🍄. Such a weird and interesting find.
Going through photos from January. Found this stinkhorn species for the first time at the Alan Chadwick Garden at UC Santa Cruz. Me and my friends got covid during this roadtrip so we headed home as soon as I tested positive and I almost forgot I took pictures
EDIT: this is most likely Lysurus mokusin but the scale isn't apparent in this photo. this thing was huge. i've only ever seen Lysurus mokusin with a stipe no bigger than pinky finger, but the one above had more girth and i've never seen the "claws" of the stinkhorn unfurled like this. I'm still not totally sure of the species
somehow this drawer in my nightstand, which is normally empty, has come to resemble an everyday carry post for chaotic neutral locket cats and also
touches you with my nasty gnarled mushroom fingars
Stinkhorn Mushrooms
The appearance of these mushrooms is quite alien, yet familiar.
