The rain has been plenty in my area, which means lots of mushrooms popping up everywhere!
I liked the framing of this shot. Even if the bird isn't in pristine focus, I liked the colors and the movement in the water around him
Common Merganser (Mergus Merganser)

This beaver didn't seem to mind my presence, as I sat quietly taking photos of birds along the shoreline

One of my favorite "common" birds - the robin - has such a sweet song that reminds me of Spring

I know this shot is a little moodier than my usual bird photos, but I was so happy when one of my favorite birds sat so nicely for a few pictures
Double-crested Cormorant (Nannopterum auritum)

Colorful and cheery, calling out loudly from the cat tails

Very excited to share this photoset. I went on a 2 ½ day birding trip, visited a couple favorite birding spots, and took over 1000 photos of 24(!!) different species of birds. These 13 photos showcase 12 of the different birds and 1 mammal.
I'll be reposting some of my favorites from this set as a individuals over the next few days, but I like the way these looked all together! I hope others enjoy looking as much as I enjoyed taking them. 😊

I got out to the man-made lake around 4:30AM that morning. The sky was still fading away from pink.
I spotted a few exciting birds: double-crested cormorants, red-necked grebes, bonaparte's gulls...as well as grackles, coots, geese, and blackbirds a plenty.
I spent a good couple hours that morning, just after dawn, trudging around the lake and taking photographs.
When suddenly! Not just a lifer, but a pair of them: two regal, majestic, black-crowned night herons..
Easily spooked, and prone to doing their fishing in the early mornings while camouflaged in the tall grasses and reeds surrounding the water, these two did not make it easy on me..
And so...I saw a Black-Crowned Heron, and this is all I have to show for it 😠Had to have a little laugh about it!
Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis) breeding pair, floating down the creek.
That mama hen sure gave me some nice shots. Very grateful to have spotted them.

I was so glad to catch a bright male singing loud to call in the ladies!
Black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus)
So happy to be able to see these cheeky little guys all year round where I live
