My final piece for the radius project. I didn’t originally plan for a colour scheme but it seems it turned into a monochrome black and white theme throughout which I think fits well with the outside of the cathedral.

I made the collage originally to make a stained glass window piece but expanded to show the extremities of religion, there is a snippet of a post in the leaflet of a woman praying the rosary on Instagram and saying “the very serious threat of legalising abortion”. I think this is an outrageous statement so I went with making the collage kind of funny and abstract to take away the seriousness.

Group Project: Radius

After being given our brief, we assembled our squad! (Our peer group). We decided to visit St. John's Cathedral. On our walk to the cathedral there was a great sense of excitement and an overall buzz. I really admired everyones sense of enthusiasm.

The architecture was beautiful both inside and outside.

We all grabbed our sketchbooks and drew different features from inside the church that intrigued us. This was both individualistic and collective; as we were all working in the same space but exploring individual ideas!

When we were sketching, a friendly man approached the group and started to speak to us about Limerick and his own experiences, being from America. He allowed us to draw him and below is my sketch of him. His name was Tom and he was so wise!

When I sat down to draw I came across a man's cap on the bench. I found this really interesting and so I drew it. In ways I found it sad that this cap was left, more than likely by an older man, symbolic of the older generations comfort in the church.

And the next two panels are up!! Pheee-ew!! Thank you so much to Will @ravensfiresculpture and his crew (Isaac & Noah) for their flawless work of installing these panels. They are getting quite good. Only 4 more to go, boys! And as I got to stand a look up at these works I saw the faces of the women as they sat and placed their pieces. I get to know every one of these women and their stories are “woven” into the work. Done!!!....the first two panels:) Need to grout and get the next two going soon! I had someone comment yesterday, “Jesus! How long have these mosaics taken you?!” I responded with long, maniacal laughter. I may have appeared as a crazed artist at that moment.
