hi :) If you would pretty please tell me all you know about kantje's lore ??? I've got the hyperfocus going hard and want to do an animatic but don't know enough about his character and relationships ( of any and all types) to do it 😭😔
I'm in derp and suffering
Oooh, okay! Always great to see more people interested in Showtime/Split Apart.
Some general stuff, just in case: kantje's lore on the Showtime SMP is called Split Apart, it is a series centred around his character. The individual lore streams are called chapters, and they go through 0.1–3.0.
I believe you have read the summary I sent to kiwi-smug-silvalina, which covers most of kantje's story in chapters 0.1 to 1.9. Also, just in case you haven't discovered it, the Showtime wiki has a couple chapter summaries.
If you end up asking for more info, could you tell me what you have watched of kantje lore already? (for the record, I won't judge if the answer is "none" lmao). I can provide you some info as-is, but it could help to know what you have watched, and/or what general parts you're potentially considering for the animatic.
Your question was quite broad but...
Here's some interesting relationships c!kantje has with people, below the cut (in no particular order). Hope it's useful, and that my writing isn't too much of a mess lol
[HEAVY SPOILERS]
Rinthehecker
The two became friends early on. When Rin was experiencing sleepwalking-like episodes, kantje was her main protector. During kantje's evil armour arc, Rin tried her hardest to save the friend she once knew from the corruption. She never stopped believing that the old kantje was somewhere in there, despite all the hurt he caused her (he even took one of her lives).
During the kantje's multiversal arc, Rin was only sometimes able to accompany him, but they remained beacons of support for each other. Their feelings for each other took a romantic turn, but they only confessed shortly before kantje died.
Effy
Friends from basically day one, as close as brothers. The two opened the Strings of Luck casino together, and were partners in crime of sorts. Effy, a magical puppet, entrusted kantje with one of their wires, which whenever pulled on, calls Effy over. Effy was a great aid in the quest to find Onion.
However, at the start of the armour arc, Effy (while in a god-like state) ended up sabotaging the plan kantje had for finding Onion. This made kantje extremely resentful of them (the corrupting armour only made things worse). Effy was one of the main people trying to stop kantje, and to cure him.
Their relationship continued to have its ups and downs, but by the point where kantje sacrificed one of his lives to save Effy during the multiversal arc, their status as brothers was firmly cemented.
Winsweep
A menace of the server, he intimidated kantje a bit at the start. During the armour arc, Win discovered kantje's twisted actions, and set out to take revenge. Because kantje's main weapon were memory erasing potions, Win attacked kantje with so many of them at once, he completely erased his memory.
Sometime after kantje's memory (and corruption) was fixed, Win wanted to go on a redemption arc of his own. He tried to befriend kantje, who hated Win with a passion. During the multiversal arc, their relationship developed from frenemies, to (begrudgingly, from kantje's side) friends, to genuine friends.
Onion
His beloved daughter. kantje's main goal was getting her back, up until he succeeded in chapter 1.9. The intensity of his love for her drove him to do horrid acts in attempt of saving her.
Because Onion's biology is strange, she grew from age 6 directly to age 16. Losing Onion made kantje terrified of something happening to her again, which meant that he was a very stifling parent, unwilling to give her the freedom a teenager needs. This made Onion want to rebel, and make more of a mess than would've happened otherwise.
kantje also did not want to tell her about all the things he committed to get her back, afraid that she'd think lowly of him. When Onion inevitably found out, she was upset.
Eventually, through a lot of communication, kantje was able to let Onion adequately spread her wings. They managed to get their relationship to a fairly healthy state.
I would honestly place the fatherly relationship he has with Onion as kantje's most important one.
The Pariah
(Side note: a large part of The Pariah's characterization occurred on the @ MidwayGuardian twitter account!)
The Pariah is the guardian of the narrative of all multiverses. Starting from the multiversal arc, it was a strict supervising figure for kantje. Over time though, The Pariah softened up, and the two became friends.
However, ZolisterTV decided The Pariah was getting too bold, so he reset a lot of its memories. (The old Pariah was called Morning Star, the new one Evening Star). kantje was crushed to lose his friend, because the Pariah was cold and strict once again.
Like before, the kantje and The Pariah became friends with time. This time, The Pariah was able to keep star's memories, and learn more about what it means to be alive and free.
Other
Others examples characters important for kantje's character: Mugm&Silva, Boomie, Kaboodle, Bormethius, Vi.
However, this is already quite long, sorry! If you want more, let me know (especially because I didn't include anything about kantje's character solo).
Hey! I'm from the Ivorycello discord server lore channel and we've recently been talking about Showtime lore. I reblogged two of your posts from that time about the scenes where Ivory glitches out and was wondering if you happened to remember anything else from that stream. (This is assuming you're not Linden on discord bc that would be funny)
A couple of questions:
-Did it seem like Ebony was taking over/possessing Ivory? Do you now remember the phrase she was repeating? (I realize that you probably don't bc you didn't remember it when writing the post, dw if you don't lol). Do you remember any common themes/ideas of the things Ebony said?
-Do you remember what exactly happened during the scene that mirrored the Cavenoise video? Did she mention any trees in particular? Was she definitively talking to Ebony, or could it have been someone else?
If you don't remember any of this, absolutely no worries, I realize it was a while ago. And once again, thank you so much for your archivism of other Showtime VODs!! Archivists are incredible.
Hi, thanks for reaching out to me. Unfortunately, I don't remember any more than Linden on discord does, because that is indeed me lol. I can ask other showtime fans what they remember, because this scene is absolutely haunting me.
I can comment on two of these questions futher:
"Did it seem like Ebony was taking over/possessing Ivory?" the answer is yes, with a big disclaimer. It's unclear if that was intended to be canon, or if it was just a technical limitation (Ebony was not physically there due to this being live improv.)
"Was she definitively talking to Ebony, or could it have been someone else?" Technically the name Ebony was never said out loud, if I remember correctly. But considering the direct reference to the cavenoise video, and the fact that there's no other chracter this could possibly have been (it doesn't match up with the behaviour of any of the Showtime deities), I'm pretty confident it was Ebony.
Thank you for enjoying those two posts. You've reminded me that there's one Vi vod that ivory appeared in that I forgot to add the list.
I don't know if any people who occasionally watch Showtime follow me, but you're going to want to watch Vi's "Envy" stream (2 PM EST) live if you can. There are multiple possible cutscenes prepared for it, and which outcome we'll get will depend on the Audience's decisions. I hope we'll manage to get a good outcome...
Listening to Iri talk is one psychic damage after another /pos. She casually shares that she experienced thousands of years in the past few months, then the next breath expresses suprise that we are concious.
Okay, so @yafriendlife just asked a good question on this post, so I'll answer here. There were two instances where ebony was brought up in Showtime:
First was August 6th, and I honestly don't remeber the details very well. Ivory was walking alone, and started "glitching out", kind of like in the I Killed God video, repeating a phrase like a broken record (I don't remember the phrase ;-;). She then started talking with a person we couldn't see, ivory voiced both sides of the conversation (a bit like in this ksmp moment). It was clear it was ebony, because there was a callback to the conversation ivory and ebony had in the Cave Dweller video (the stream was like a week after that video was posted). I have some liveblogging reacting to this stream, which is what reassured me that I didn't just imagine it lmao.
The second time was in the letter c!ivory gave to the people in showtime, explaining why she left:
(these screenshots are from Win's stream from 20th August).
It's heavily implied that Ane stopped following the deity system it was created into in favour of following a differnet god. (ZolisterTV, it seems?). Let's see what that will entail for the fireworks event coming up today. (I'm so exited for the fireworks event. Why does Ane want to blow themself up. With 42 stacks of TNT, no less.)
