One of the things I do to save money on groceries is to buy larger cuts of meat and portion them out the way I want them, rather than the way the grocery store thinks I want them. So I bought ten lbs of hamburger, an entire pork loin and an eye of round for about $72, I rounded up. Once cut and portioned I'll get at least 50 meals out of this making my price per portion about $1.44. That's being conservative too because I can get three meals out of a good sized pork chop when I make pork fried rice. So it all depends on what I'm making. All it takes is a cutting board, a decent knife and some freezer paper. You could use a scale if you like to be exact too. It's really not difficult. That beef roast is going straight into the Instapot for dinner tonight to be served with potatoes from my garden. Tomorrow what's left will become beef sandwiches, and what's left after that will become either stew or soup. By that time it'll be so tender it'll melt in your mouth. I hope you had a great Saturday my friends, I sure did. #poverty_hill #homestead #homeeconomics #stockingupforwinter #fillingthefreezer #wastenotwantnot #frugalliving #realfood #slowfood #playwithyourfood #cookingfromscratch #homecooking #ruralpa #myhappyplace #myhappylife (at Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/B30YjxyAcZ7/?igshid=y4hgt37xobov
