**In the Great Hall**

Ack: So, Stoick? How is the Lad?

Stoick (Somber yet hopeful): Well, Gothi is positive he'll pull through. The worst of the fever is gone and there's no longer sign of infection on his... *Gives a shakey sigh of guilt*

Gobber: Stoick, you can't blame yurself fur that.

Stoick: How can I not? He tried to warn me about that... Demon Monstrosity, yet I ignored him and led the entire village on a suicide mission, only it was Hiccup who paid the price. He is too young to have lost something like a leg.

Gobber: Aye. It'll be hard. But the lad is stronger than we all give him credit for. 'e'll be back on his feet- er- foot, and act like his regular self.

*Great Hall doors slam open and everyone turns to see...*

Stoick: Hiccup! You're awake!

I just saw an edit of long live also known as the song that says "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you" with Stoick and Gobber - I JUST STARTED SOBBING - it literally ended with Gobber staring at the statue of Stoick like they were best friends - Hiccup was literally Gobber's nephew

Got high and watched How To Train Your Dragon last night and for some reason it was only then when I realized how heartbreaking Stoick’s line “With you doing so well in the ring... We finally have something to talk about” is 

Like Stoick wants to connect with Hiccup. He’s tried so hard: taking him fishing, teaching him how to take down a dragon, even just living in the same house as his son, but they’re so vastly different that they can’t even hold a conversation. Until he hears about Hiccup’s successes in dragon training. And he’s so excited. He can finally connect with his son! But that is such new territory that Hiccup feels awkward and doesn’t answer. And Stoick realizes that even now, he doesn’t have and may never have the son he’s always wanted. So he tries one last thing: Giving Hiccup one last reminder of his mother. The only thing they have in common. And even that fails.
