Went camping recently amongst the redwoods at Pomo Canyon. Hiked from campsite to beach one day and played the stone game. Excellent weather. Did some dying with blackberry vines in my cast iron Dutch oven. Upped my campfire cooking game (tinfoil!!) and discovered how excellent squeeze mayo is on everything-- but especially the asparagus.

My head's still spinning from too much travel. Apologies to those who continue to endure the fallout of my social burnout. Have gobs of glorious photos from back-to-back trips but not quite the energy to process them all yet. But I want to. So am starting small and easy with the the one Stone Game I managed to play, some macro photos from same beach visit, and a different type of macro? photo from flight either to or from that trip to Washington.
I was worried that by bringing a tin with me when collecting rocks, I would be playing the stone game wrong. Turns out- you can't play the stone game wrong.
It's of course interesting to me to review what type of rock catches my eye. By snatching only the prettiest as I go (vs collecting a handful from a single location) the attributes that line up become clearer though it's mixed with some element of the natural world - surely certain stones behave/evolve differently as they're battered by the waves...? Maybe?
The tiny oblong reds. The smooth rounded oranges with a soft glow. The softened small polyhedra of popping white. The rich greens, often speckled black in whatever shape I can find them.
I’m going to miss the beaches here.
I've run off to the wilderness again. Not online/around much these days.
Here's some macro Monday beach photos however and the results of yesterday's Stone Game.
Macro Monday shots of driftwood and the results of a brief stone game. I adore how hollowed out the driftwood can look at such magnification.

(EXPLAIN THE JOKE GODAHL: I like to play this game when I'm agitated. Unrelated: Wow, my art's actually improved a bit since I drew this back in 2023, huh? Or I mean, my artstyle's changed, which I guess counts as the same thing lol. iirc I drew this right around when I finally left the toxic art discord community I'd been in, due to not improving at the rate people wanted me to/not taking unasked for criticism every time it was offered--well I can improve at my own pace, clearly! Give me a break)
