Reader infiltrates the Akatsuki’s base: Part VIIII
You were running as fast as your legs could carry you. Your heart was racing and the blood was pumping fast through your veins. Your chakra levels were spiking, and you could feel your pursuer closing in. You were afraid to be captured once again, even though you were promised it wouldn’t happen. The seal on the back of your neck burning with intensity.
You were being followed by your enemy and by your fellow allies: Itachi and Kisame. You trusted Itachi more so than Kisame but not enough to make the fear disappear. You were going to be captured; that was part of the plan since you were bait, yet you were still going to put up a good fight and you were going to try your hardest to keep from being drugged again.
You pulled out a paper bomb in your determination. The trees were getting sparse, and Manzo was hot on your tail. You placed a couple paper bombs on the passing trees as you weaved through the thinning foliage. Explosions followed a few seconds afterwards and then silence, but you kept moving.
Suddenly you heard the ground grumble from behind you and felt the tremors from under the ground. You checked over your shoulder briefly and saw the earth catching up to you on both sides. You knew this earth style jutsu. It was a pursuit jutsu where the rocks followed its target like a zigzagging underground snake. The rocks were catching up to you and you could tell the jutsu was going to cut you off right as you made it out of the tree line to an open plain.
You grab another paper bomb in preparation. Manzo was closing in. You had to make this believable. The twin underground rock snakes sped pass you and merged in front of you creating a barrier of rock. You threw the paper bomb ahead of you at the rock formation. You didn’t change course as the bomb exploded and you jumped over and through the hole of the tumbling rocks. You landed gracefully and were ready to continue to run when your feet were caught by the ground like quicksand.
You gasped and within seconds the earth twisted and ate you up to where nothing but your head and shoulders were above the ground. You were caught and not a second later, Manzo stood in front of you.
He squatted by your head looking you directly in the eyes through his creepy tracker mask. You struggled to break free, but the dirt was too compact with chakra to move an inch. Your heart was racing overtime as the man chuckled.
“We meet again, Y/N.” He spoke calmly and very much pleased.
“Let me go! You’re making a mistake!” You shouted, your voice cracking.
“I don’t think I am. I know a traitor when I see one. Where’s your partners?” Manzo quipped, not phased.
“There not my partners” you lied pathetically.
“Right…:” Manzo spoke sarcastically. He started digging into his knapsack at his hip. “You could have fooled me. Foes don’t typically save one another. Now let’s pick up where we left off last time to get to the truth of the matter,” Manzo stated unsympathetic as your eyes widened in fear.
“Not so fast,” Itachi’s cool voice cut through the air.
Manzo paused and turned to look at the pair as he slowly stood up straight to face them. Itachi and Kisame stood on the other side of the clearing and from where you were at they certainly looked intimidating. Kisame’s hand was already on his sword’s handle and Itachi had his hand poking out from his Akatsuki cloak with his sharingan activated.
Manzo chuckled slightly from beneath his mask. “Did you really think I would come alone?” He asked with amusement in his voice.
Suddenly ten stone shinobi appeared into the clearing landing beside Manzo. You couldn’t sense their chakras and a pit sank into your stomach as you recognize the familiar masks. You swallowed thickly. Not because this stone division was formidable but because they were comrades you used to work with.
“Meet the Stone’s Covert Division. A silent and undetected group of shinobi all capable of hiding their chakra for scouting and ambushing opponents. The same division that Y/N was brought up in and they have every intention in helping me bring back one of their one,” your captor declared.
Itachi did not seem phased as Kisame smirked arrogantly not at all intimidated.
Manzo continued in confidence after taking out an object from his pocket, holding it diligently in his hands. “Leave or face your fears.”
“I believe its time you face yours,” Itachi answered coolly.
Manzo stood frozen in place while his comrades glanced at his state briefly, before engaging to attack as Itachi called out Kisame’s name. Kisame’s gave a smile as he pulled his sword out from behind his back and charged in front of Itachi covering him to clash with the stone ninja. You watched in horrific shock as Kisame cut a few of your former comrades down with ease in a gruesome bloody scene. You looked away as Itachi joined the fight. You realized the dirt surrounding you had lost its strength and was soft. You looked up at Manzo seeing he was still paralyzed from whatever Itachi had done to him, most likely a genjutsu.
You rushed to break your arms free from the ground with the sounds of your fellow shinobi screams filling the background noise. One of the shinobi let off a smoke bomb, no doubt to add coverage to sneak up on Akatsuki to gain the upper hand. You could only feel some of your comrades, their chakra either hidden or having been snuffed out completely. You tried not to concentrate on the scene as you struggled out of the dirt. A stray shuriken flew out and cut your cheek. You hissed putting more effort into getting your legs free.
Once you were freed, you crawled over to the tree line and turned your attention back to the battle at hand, not sure what to do and who to help. The smoke was dissipating and within seconds there was silence.
You could see a figure merging out of the smoke and your heart began racing until you recognized the familiar being as Itachi. His eyes were glowing red and his face expressionless. He was truly scary, but you felt no fear. It was when the smoke completely vanished did your stomach drop at the ghastly scene of blood and your comrades lifeless bodies slew on the ground with Kisame standing victorious in the center.
Itachi approached the paralyzed Manzo. He took the pod of gas from the man’s hand and slipped it inside his Akatsuki coat. Then, Itachi placed his hand on Manzo’s shoulder and forced his unresistant body onto his knees before glancing over to your wan face.
You swallowed thickly, feeling the blood from the cut on your cheek run down your face. You wiped it away and stood up shaking a bit, trying to keep yourself composed. Kisame stepped forward to Itachi looking down at Manzo’s face.
“Looks like we were successful.” Kisame rasped before turning to you and giving you a shark-like grin. “You make pretty great bait, shrimp,” he jested with a low chuckle.
“We need to bind him and find somewhere inconspicuous so that I can interrogate him further with tsukuyomi. There’s no telling how long it will take. We need to get out of the open.”
“No problem,” Kisame reached forward and tied up Manzo with a rope he pulled out of his cloak. Once he was tied up, Kisame threw the target up over his shoulder to carry him. All the while Itachi was staring at you as you were trying not to look at the murder scene. You felt the tingle of the rose seal burning against the back of your neck.
You met Itachi’s eyes knowing he could feel what you felt. Yet not another word pass from his lips as the three of you headed off to find a spot far from the battle that just took place.

Reader infiltrates the Akatsuki’s base: Part VII
You couldn’t exactly remember what had happened next after Itachi lifted you up in his arms. You must have passed out since you woke up in a strange wooden room that was barren of any décor with only a flicker of candlelight allowing you to see. You could hear chirping crickets from outside and a light breeze filtering in from the jarred window. You took in the night sky and knew you had probably slept through the whole day.
Your head ached when you sat up in bed. The pain reminding you of your encounter with the tracking ninja from your village.
“You’re finally awake.”
His voice startled you in the night as you quickly turned your gaze to the opposite corner of the room where Itachi hid in the shadows. He was leaning back on a wooden chair with his head resting against the wall. Suddenly his eyes turn red, cutting through the darkness.
“It seems the drugs have finally subsided,” he commented as he shut his sharingan off.
“How long have I been out?” You muttered. The taste in your mouth was stale and your throat felt dry. Even your jaw hurt, you noticed. Your eyes were trained on Itachi but your mind was desperately trying to put the pieces together yourself from your memory.
“You been in and out of consciousness throughout the day. Do you not remember?” He spoke smoothly. His eyes critically locked on yours.
You shook your head but regretted your decision. You could feel the ache when you turned your head a certain way.
“You were thrashing a lot in your sleep. Probably from nightmares that the drug seemed to induce,” Itachi deduced and answered your unspoken question as to why your head hurt so bad. “You also rambled a bit while you were conscious.”
You grimaced at that and nodded. “His drugs can do that. That’s how he can get intel out of his victims through fear and an aberrated mind.”
“So you know this shinobi?”
“Yes and no. His name is Manzo Sekki. He’s a tracker ninja for the Land of Stone. He was a class ahead of me in the academy and graduated early for his impressive skill. He was known to be the most formidable in the chunin exams and he had exceeded in rank in the interrogation unit for his methods,” you answered. You had turned your gaze away from Itachi with your fist clenching slightly at the thought of Manzo.
“There’s more you aren’t sharing.” Itachi state plainly. His face vacant of expression but his eyes were vigilant and firm.
“I prefer to leave it at that,” you mentioned.
You felt the burn at the back of your neck and your hand instinctively held it. The cold from your hands doing little to stop the burn. Itachi had got up from his post. Your eyes followed him. You glared slightly out of annoyance but inwardly you remembered he had saved you from your demise. He took in your glare as if he could see right through you and stopped in his tracks in front of the bed.
“This is not a request. Anything even slightly informative that could benefit the Akatsuki or help the organization identify threats or lead to a mission success is vital which can waive your right to privacy.”
“It’s nothing really! Its only… I never liked, or was fond of Manzo. He and a few others were very unkind to me as a kid,” you answered carefully.
You felt the burning stop and knew Itachi believed you. You kept your gaze away from his, still annoyed but also from feeling shame at remembering your days in the academy. No one liked talking about how they were bullied on the playground. It made ninja like you feel weak.
“Well this Manzo adversary of yours got away. He fled as soon as Kisame and I showed up. I assume we will run into him again. Our mission is currently compromised if they know we’re here and where we are currently looking. The Tsuchikage will send more tracking ninja after you to stop you from spreading any more secrets or to hinder the Akatsuki,” Itachi spoke rather calmly.
“…”
You had no response. Obviously, you were angered that your village had sold you out and were so willing to discard you, versus save you from your hostage situation. Secondly, you were a bit disappointed that the shinobi that trapped you got away. You wouldn’t have been upset if Kisame had sliced him in all honesty. Even though, that’s horrible to say since he was once a comrade, but old scars were hard to forget.
“What… What did I say when I was out of it?” You asked after a moment in a low voice.
“Most of it was garbled, but there were a few words here and there. You mentioned your parents and said dead. You repeated the word puppets numerous times. You said sand, dark, dolls, trap, death, scared, and you mentioned Sasori a few times,” Itachi enlightened.
You couldn’t lift your head to look at Itachi. You knew what those words meant, and you felt uncomfortably exposed.
Itachi watched your demeanor change and how you slightly flinched at certain words he spoke. There was meaning that he didn’t fully grasp yet, but he was certain it was to do with your past which only led him to speculate.
“Are your parents deceased?” He asked quite bluntly.
“Yes.”
“Was the Sand responsible?”
You nodded, not liking how close Itachi was getting to the truth.
“How?” His voice held authority.
“They were drafted into the 3rd Great Ninja War and they never came back when they were sent to protect the territory claimed between the Land of Earth and the Land of Wind,” You answered with clenched teeth unwillingly.
“Did Sasori have a hand in your parents’ death?”
You shook your head rapidly. “No.”
“Then why-“
“Please…” You begged with strain in your voice. You didn’t want your mind to go there. You could feel your emotions riling up. Even your chakra was spiking wildly because of it and you were sure Itachi could feel it too. You looked him in the eyes, asking him for this mercy. “Please, can we drop the topic?”
You saw Itachi’s eyes soften for a minute, surprising you. However, he soon regained his stern features. He turned his back towards you and began to retreat out of the room.
“Continue to rest. At dawn we’re leaving. Kisame has been impatient over your recovery. I would not make him wait any longer,” Itachi advised.
He didn’t look back at you as he opened and shut the door after himself, leaving you to your thoughts in the barren room. You were grateful that he hadn’t pushed you further to reveal your past and were appreciative that he had saved you from your adversary and kept you from Kisame’s impatient hand. After these last few incidents, your heart churn with warmth for Itachi. You saw compassion in his eyes. That was new to you and left you wondering if there was more to Itachi than what he was known for.

Reader infiltrates the Akatsuki’s base: Part VI
Two weeks and half had nearly passed and your deadline was fast approaching the three-week mark. You knew you would be seeing that plant humanoid named Zetsu again. He was going to be checking on you, Itachi, and Kisame’s progress on finding the four tails and at the moment, there wasn’t much to report on.
You sighed; your worries resting heavily in your mind. All you had so far was a name and a face of the four-tails. It was something, but would it be good enough for the leader of the Akatsuki? You weren’t sure.
Tracking the four-tail jinchūriki was taking a lot longer than anyone anticipated.
Traveling was the biggest inconvenience as they had to return to Iwagakure first to gather intel on who the jinchūriki was. After leaving Iwagakure, you felt a heavyweight being lifted from your chest. You were happy you were not detected and satisfied that you did not run into anyone you recognized. You couldn’t even imagine what would happen if you ran into someone you cared about. You would have been forced to leave or lie to them because if you told them the truth or if they didn’t let you go, Kisame would kill them.
Now you three were out searching for the four-tails named Roshi in the Land of Earth. Roshi was a wanderer and apparently a very frequent one at that. The three of you were nearly stopping at every town to investigate, spending three days at max in each one. If there were no whispers of the four tails or Roshi being spotted, you three had moved on. So far, every town was a dead lead, making you all the more nervous and anxious.
You dimmed down your chakra, feeling it spike while you were worrying. Your eyes scanned the tavern you were in. No one seemed to notice the flare of your chakra as you swirled your full cup in your hands. You sat alone, knowing you would have to reconvene with Itachi and Kisame soon. The three of you had split up to cover more ground across the town to try to find some sort of lead.
You were concentrating on listening in to other people’s conversations, hoping to hear some news about the four-tails. You had already asked a few people around and many had shook their heads. This search was really getting tiresome you thought as you decided to take your first sip of your drink since you sat down.
You awed after your small sip but soon froze at the presence beside you.
“I thought I recognized you, Y/N,” a cool voice spoke from beneath a fox mask.
Your back ran rigid. You didn’t move your head as your eye darted to the Stone tracker ninja. You knew of him and his capabilities. You placed your glass down but before you could bring your hand back to you, the ninja caught your wrist.
“Don’t move.”
You bit the inside of your cheek. Your heartbeat already increasing.
You had to get away from him.
“Did you think you could run away from your post and not be found, traitor?” The ninja remarked, his tone sinister.
“It’s not what you think,” you spoke softly, gulping. You were afraid of saying too much for the curse seal on your neck but you were also deadly afraid of him.
Sweat piled on your brow as your eyes looked for an escape.
This ninja was renowned in the Land of Stone’s interrogation division and his successful ambush missions. You weren’t sure if he was working alone but you wouldn’t be surprised if he was. You looked around for his partners but you didn’t find any. His grip on your wrist tightened, cutting off your circulation further.
“Traitors say many things. What is your excuse?” he mocked quietly as to not draw attention to your conversation.
Your eyes turned back to look at his mask.
“I… can’t say,” you spoke nervously.
“Great, we can get right to it then,” he commented.
Your eyes widened and you quickly moved to get up from your seat, but he yanked you back down. Instantly his other hand reached out towards your face and his sleeve sliding down as a gas was emanated. You gasped, accidently inhaling the spray.
You began to cough as the aroma invaded your nostrils and made its way into your lungs. Your eyes dilated as your mind loss its sense of awareness. You felt yourself being lifted and carried outside. You struggled to figure out how to move as you tried to register what was happening. You saw black spots in your vision and felt paranoia sinking in.
You were soon tossed on the ground.
“We’ll see how open you are after this,” the man chimed as he performed hand signs.
“Earth Style. Enclosed Space.”
Darkness surrounded you as you were trapped in a stone wall room with a roof. You scrambled to your feet. The hairs on your arms beginning to stand up. You felt your heart pounding in your chest wildly. Your eyes darted rapidly around looking for an exit. You stood shaking.
That was when you heard it. You froze at the sound. The leery scraping of wood penetrating your ears. Your breath caught in your lungs. Cold shivers ran down your spine.
Out of the darkness, your eyes caught shadows that moved.
Panic was beginning to sink in as the sound increased until you finally caught sight of it.
Puppets.
They were looming in the dark towards you.
You screamed and screamed as you tried to claw your way out, trying to get away. Tears ran down your eyes as terror racked your form. All you felt was fear and didn’t even notice the seal burning at the back of your neck.
You were unaware of time and how long you were trapped, but soon found yourself blinded as the stone walls cracked and crumbled to the ground. You promptly shut your eyes as you frantically crawled over the stones.
You were wheezing and your throat felt raw from your screams.
None of that mattered, you only wanted to get away. To get away from those puppets.
Suddenly you felt your self being yanked up from the ground, you screamed hoarsely.
“GET OFF!!!”
You fought the person off, imagining the puppets were wrapping themselves around you.
“Y/N.”
You recognized that voice as you struggled less. You tried to reopen your eyes. The light was blinding, but some colors were coming back to you. You saw piercing red eyes staring back into yours, but the face those eyes belong to was blurry.
Your body shook in fear seeing a puppet in place of a face as you waited for your vision to clear. Slowly you began to see edges and shapes of a face you knew. It was no longer a puppet to your eyes and you felt you nerves suddenly decreasing. You saw Itachi’s grim expression as he held you in his arms, watching you.
Your breathing slowed but you still didn’t feel safe as you saw shadows dancing in the corner of your eyes.
“Guess you were right, Itachi,” a gravelly voice rumbled.
You barely realized it was Kisame’s voice as your gaze shifted over to him. His features were extra frightening with your distorted vision and you had to quickly look away.
“What did that tracker ninja do to them?” Kisame questioned curious, looking unconcerned.
Itachi’s eyes never left yours as he answered Kisame.
“Some form of plant-based hallucinogen that’s nontoxic that makes the user experience disillusions. Fairly similar to genjutsu except this does not only entrap the mind but also the body. Their eyes are dilated and their chakra is running wild.”
“Anything we can do about it? Or perhaps, should we put them out of their misery?” Kisame offered freely and Itachi could feel your fear increasing from the remark.
“That’s not necessary,” Itachi responded quickly. “It’ll pass out of their system in time.”
Your eyes settled on Itachi still wide with fright. You clung to him, your hands fiercely gripping at his cloak. He was your safety net for the time being since you weren’t certain about any of your surroundings. He was your foundation. You saw him as your protector and Itachi unadmittedly protected you.
