Sure, he identified with oppressed people who had to endure slavery because he too was a victim of oppression. However, he nonconsensually turned and enslaved them as his vampire slaves to obtain the power of their music/culture to resurrect his ancestors and regain his culture and family. Mind you he had tried to do the same to the Choctaw tribe the night before and they rightfully fucked him up.
Your sympathy for a complex character shouldn’t make you turn a blind eye to their crimes… ever.
