I usually like live/work homes, but this one is such an odd setup. And, it looks as if no one else lives here. It's originally a 1948 dept. store in Truth or Consequences, NM. Has 3bds, 3ba, 8,500sqft, asking $949,900.
These look like all businesses. Must be lonely living here. 10,018.8sqft lot.
The original display cases are here, but it looks like it's currently a resale shop.
It's a very large space. What kind of business would be good here?
It looks like they make signs in here.
They have some furniture, plus a copy machine, all for sale.
This area definitely looks like it was part of the dept. store, and the more dressy clothing was up the stairs.
This is definitely a large family room.
One of the 3 bedrooms is off this room.
And, this is one of 3 baths.
Here's another family room that was definitely part of the store.
It's next to a large kitchen.
It has a vintage stove.
And, this is the primary bedroom.
This room has a walk-in closet.
They didn't do much to change the store. This looks like the delivery area.
Maybe these were offices, but down this hallway they have a rec room.
Very big space has books, the pool table, a bar, and a lot of room to spare.
Then, here they have a TV room.
There's a workshop.
The laundry room is back here.
The 3rd bd. is back here, too.
Plus, the 3rd full bath.
They have a fenced yard with raised plant beds.
Parking along the side of the building and they also have a car port.
Beautiful conversion of what was once an 1821 town grocery store in Brownsville, IN. 3bds, 2.5ba, 2,500sqft, $324k. It's currently an Airbnb and is completely move-in ready, which I take to mean that it comes furnished.
It actually looks like a high-end industrial loft, now.
This is cute, they have a counter behind the sofa so you can eat and watch TV.
The regular table is next to the kitchen, under the stairs.
Plus, there's also counter seating at the kitchen island.
Very nice kitchen.
That's a chef's stove, and the microwave is under the counter. The only problem is that there's no exhaust hood. Can you imagine how greasy those curtains would get?
Looking toward the living area from the kitchen.
Half bath and laundry room.
Industrial stairs. Love the exposed brick wall.
The upstairs hallway.
This bedroom is set up for the Airbnb. Love the closet and lighting.
The windows are very nice.
Huge shower room.
The primary bedroom has a cute little modern fireplace on the wall, and its own bath.
The bath is semi-private. The tub is in the room, but the sink, shower and toilet are hidden in a corner.
Not impressed w/the 3rd bedroom. It looks like it has old hospital ward beds.
Another, smaller shower room. But, the shower's double size.
In the back there's a small side deck, patio, and large yard on an 8,416sqft lot.
It says "City Jail," but the 1925 building is actually a former store turned into a loft style home in Lakemont, GA. The 1bd, 2ba, 1,800sqft home is zoned for also being used as an Airbnb, if the new owner wants to rent it out. Listed at $720k, it's a bit pricey.
Notice the sign on the door- "Private Home Y'all." Maybe people think it's a tourist attraction?
Anyway, the doors are pretty cool.
The listing says nothing about coming furnished, which was a disappointment.
Love the chippy brick walls. It's quite spacious for the amount of square footage.
They do have a lot of cool pieces in here.
Look at the retro fireplace- it's got a modern flame. I've never seen one like that. It must come with the house.
Large kitchen. I love the fridge and cabinetry.
The red stove is a wonderful modern replica of an antique.
Beautiful spacious bath. This conversion is so well done. Where did they find all of the wonderful vintage stuff, like the sink and cabinet.
Washer/dryer closet.
Down the stairs is where the bedroom is. I wonder what you could use this big room for.
The primary bedroom has an adult size bed with a loft. If they rented it out as an Airbnb, that would accommodate more guests.
There's a nice shower room down here.
Why is it listed as 1 bedroom? This is a 2nd bd.
And, this is a 3rd. Actually, it's so big, it looks like the primary.
There are small outdoor areas and gardens along the sides of the house.
What do you do if you have an empty little old store next to your home? Well, if you live in Richmond, Virginia, you paint it a festive bright blue and turn it into a makeshift 1 room home and put it on the market for $312K. (The best thing about it, however, is the cool mural on the side of the house.)
Fancy door lock when you can just bust the window, reach in and open it.
Open the front door and this is it. You've got your living room, kitchen and bedroom.
The stove is supposed to be the kind that's supposed to fit between the kitchen cabinets.
I like blue, but not really this shade and they kind of forced you into it, right down to the backsplash.
I'm assuming that the plaster was peeling off the walls. Too bad they didn't leave the exposed brick natural. Now, it's ruined.
This bath would've been beautiful with all the brick.
Laundry in the back hallway.
The mural in the alley on the side of the house is the best part. I would've like it as a feature on the wall in the main living space.
The 2nd door looks like it might be storage.
Large patio with just enough room for a garden around the perimeter.
I'm guessing since it's shown, this is part of the property.
There's quite a bit of land here. Maybe the buyer could do something with this, if it's permitted.
Squirrel mural on the other side of the house.
The land is probably at the back of the house and it's a good thing that it provides plenty of parking b/c the street parking looks pretty tight.
Unusual home in Portland, Oregon doesn't say if it's a former store, but it looks like it was. All they say is that it was 2 units, now a single, but it can be converted back. The 2bd 2ba home has a pending sale of $748K.
Isn't this an unusual living room? Those colorful stained glass doors are a great feature.
It's very open concept. I think that this building was clearly a store at one time.
The kitchen isn't terribly big or pretty. It looks cobbled together by a DIY'er.
Bath #1 has a semi-private toilet and a weird sink off to the side.
Here's a multi-use room. It even has laundry. Maybe this was the other bedroom?
I guess the current owners only needed one bedroom.
Remember they said it was 2 units? Well, we've just crossed over to the other unit's kitchen.
It's more modern than the other one.
And, this would've been the other living room.
There's a hallway with a laundry area. So, each unit had 1bd & 1ba.
Weird bd and bath. There's an inside window.
So, here's the house. It's on a corner property. There's only street parking.
This is the only outside area- not much to speak of, just a narrow space between the 2 buildings.
I don't think it's worth $748K.

This is so gorgeous, I can’t take it. It’s a former corner store built in 1822, converted into a home in New Orleans. Shoot, it’s over $1M.
Isn’t this an amazing entrance? The one thing I notice about NOLA homes, is how they have glass doors and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Is there ever a problem with break-ins, or have I been in the city too long?
An arch leads into the living room from the center hall. Above is a lovely mezzanine and a high ceiling.
Isn’t that grand?
The kitchen is small, but fully equipped and so beautiful. Love how the green ceiling matches the green in the backsplash.
Beautiful exposed brick in the dining room. Love the fireplaces in all the rooms.
Bright orange guest powder room. Small, but stunning.
The mezzanine leads to the bedrooms.
The upper rooms have access to the terrace out front. This room is being used as an office, but it could be anything.
Fabulous.
This is a nice, bright bedroom, but it’s not the main bedroom.
