Resident Evil: Requiem (2026) game review
So I have finally finished my play through of the new main line entry of the Resident Evil video game series - Requiem. I say finally even though I believe I enjoyed the game at a leisurely pace, taking in the environments and all the lovely detail, whilst also, you know, living my life and going to work everyday. Not taking anything away from the other players who have been publicly showing off their impressive speed runs of this game (saw someone completed this game in an hour and a half), and yet I don’t see the point in that. Like are you playing the game to have a good time, or just to make some fairly insignificant record that isn’t going to achieve you any financial gain or even word of mouth. Also, let me layer this cake with another controversial decision I made, and that is that I experienced this game on Casual mode! Again, I don’t have much time outside of work, so the time I do have I wish to enjoy the video games I’m playing rather than see it as a chore when I get stuck on a particularly hard level.
Anyway, I am digressing too much - point is I have now myself finished Requiem’s story, and as a long time fan of the franchise… heck, Resident Evil IS my most favourite video game series, I have some thoughts. And yes, that includes addressing the fact that Leon has become a HUNK! And I’m not talking about a certain other surprise character appearance, I’m talking about the fact that Leon has got ripped and then some, and for someone who’s supposed to be in his fifties he’s got way more muscle and hair than most others at his age! Like I am not gay, but damn if I don’t admit that that man is fine, and if he would just pull my hair back and let’s me gaze at his beautiful eyes as he spits in my mouth and….where was I?
I’m not going to sugar coat things - RE Requiem is bloody awesome! It takes all the best aspects of the previous games and combines into one singular experience. If you missed the more secluded horror aspect of the original games and RE 7, then playing Grace’s section offers some of the best scares of this franchise so far, with lots of dark and creepy corridors to walk through and horrid enemies to run away from. Then if you yearn more for the straight up action then Leon’s sections will offer that and then some, with the beloved character getting some genuinely crazy set pieces, and him being as badass as ever. And yes, that does include him throwing about some cheesy yet highly enjoyable one liners that he’s known for.
Look, Leon is, for me at least, the face of the RE games, however I was genuinely surprised to find that after playing this game it was in fact Grace that stood out as the more interesting character. She has that everyday human quality about her, similar to Ethan Winters only less wooden, with her starting off as a frightened fish-out-of-water persona who is forced to face her demons, yet as the narrative progresses she comes into her own and becomes a key part of the story‘s progression. Props also to the voice actress who really nails the vocal quivers and emoting fear in a realistic and visceral way. It is also due her sections of the game where the developers try to add new flavours to an already old and established franchise. For example, we are now introduced to a new level of zombies - ones that retain aspects of their real life souls, as such they go about doing the mundane jobs or tasks they did when they were alive. You have a light switch zombie, cleaner zombie, head chef zombie, doctor zombie, blind zombie, baby zombie, doll collector zombie, opera singing zombie… the list goes on. It’s a really fun gimmick that allows you to find creative ways to avoid/deal with the undead.
As for Leon, his sections are based more around nostalgia bating, as you find yourself fighting bosses on a similar level to Resident Evil 4, and, of course, taking a trip down memory lane to the destroyed Raccoon City, with a plethora of Easter Eggs included from coming back to that environment, especially if you played Resident Evil 2. Don’t get me wrong, the fan service is fun and Leon is always great to play as, whether you’re conducting unrealistic acrobatic jumps or chainsawing through the guts of the walking dead, but the Grace stuff just felt fresher.
The first section of the game set in the medical centre/mansion, where you do primarily play as Grace, was a more prettier and fun environment to be in, whilst the Raccoon City areas were very plain and dull looking, which is to no shame towards the developers and artists, as what else were they supposed to do to showcase a city that was blown up by a nuclear bomb.
The game offers the choice of playing either in first or third person, and different areas offer opportunity to play in stealth mode or go in guns a’ blazing. This is really a game that exists to bring all fans of the RE games into one - there is something here for everyone. Visually this thing looks stunning on the PlayStation 5, with Capcom’s RE Engine allowing for the graphics of the environments and character details to really stand out. Also noteworthy, and this goes for most RE game releases, is that upon launch the game runs really smoothly with hardly any glitches, which is rare as most other new games tend to get many patches and updates post launch to fix any bugs, but not RE. So props to Capcom on that one.
I’m not going to dive into spoilers, as this game deserves to be experienced on your own terms. But it definitely leaves room for the franchise to grow in a new direction whilst closing off the saga of Umbrella on a satisfying note, even if it does retcon certain plot points from previous entries, though I am sure these will be addressed/changed when certain previous games get the remake treatment.
Overall though Requiem is a brilliant time, and already sets itself up as a high contender for Game of the Year, and I say that with the knowledge of other games like Fable, Wolverine and, of course, GTA VI to come. I’d rank Requiem as my third favourite of the series, with Village in second and RE 4 (original & remake) at the top of the chain. Now, if you excuse me, I may go back in for another play through. I have some unfinished business with a chubby monster baby!
Overall score: 9/10 (because of course!)

The Western Plaguelands
After a very underwhelming end to The Hinterlands, I soon embarked to The Western Plaguelands.
I was excited. I remembered having some fun in Western and Eastern Plaugelands previously.
So, my buddy Void Walker and I just chilled outside Scholomance for awhile. Seriously, I just stood outside listening to the ghostly wind while I chilled. It was really calming.

What kind of games do you like?
I have a feeling you like shooters, and you say your favorite game is CoD, but it’s actually like Splatoon or smth.
(I’m not bias)
I'm actually more partial to sandbox and story-driven games. My favorite of all time is Minecraft, and I just recently finished playing Still Wakes the Deep. Really excellent game, Unreal Engine 5 looks so good, and the voice acting was amazing! I do love me a good horror game.
