Straccetti - Temporary Score: 9
Description: "twisted rags" (that's it. that's all. that's the description.)
First Take Points: 4 - these are weird little shapes, but they cook really nicely! as you can see from my steamed up photo, i made this a vaguely tomato-y broccoli butter saucy concoction. the pastas don't fully unravel, and despite the uncooked appearance, are actually very uniform thickness, so you end up with looser spiraled sauce-holding chewy kinda-sorta tubes. delish!
Remix Bonus Points: 2 - i haven't actually used these in any second dishes but now that we're in the thick of winter, i've been thinking about dropping them into a soup or a stew.
Amusement Points: 3 - i do enjoy the idea of this conversation: what do you want for dinner? eh, i don't know, we have some vegetables on the counter, just toss them in a pot with some twisted rags and call it a day. also, i appreciate that these are uniform without the appearance of uniformity - like, they look like they could be leftover pasta bits rolled up haphazardly.
Annoyance Deductions: 0 - maybe i'm just feeling particularly forgiving right now, but even back when i made this dish (uh.... months ago), i don't remember being annoyed or even negatively ambivalent about these. their shape is pretty cool. they cooked up great. their name doesn't scrape my brain to say. *shrug* who's got time to be mad about pasta?
Alternative Uses: don't say rags. don't do it. the temptation is SO STRONG. you could always cook these up, flatten them out a little bit, and then use them as... bookmarks. i was going to say bookmarks.
