Mining with a view. Visiting this iolite mine near Babati was a magical experience! We drove up a mountain, then hiked a mile back down along a rocky, barely visible path with gorgeous vistas at every turn to be greeted by the warmest miners. They welcomed us with incredible hospitality showing the camp, the mine, their gemstones...even picking fresh tamarind for us right off the tree. It was so humbling, beautiful, and powerful. Let there be zircon! These miners near Singida are working to clear the dirt from this mine shaft to hopefully find zircon deposits below. They've got it down to an efficient system! "Aw man, if only giving up meat were easier I'd totally become veg....." If you live in SLC, it's TOO easy to find baller vegan food. I love Long Life Vegi House as an occasional fast food treat. We got the dinner for two w/ veggie fried rice, "pork" chow mein, sweet n sour "chicken," veg eggroll, hot n sour soup, and all vegan! Also pretty cheap and fast!
