something about fearing the ability to dream

thinking about Stranger's lack of a childhood makes me so insane, all he could do was watch someone else try to preserve their own while he had nothing of the sort. Basil's memories, sure, maybe some of Sunny's- but he is Stranger. What did he have? What did he want to have, but was too afraid to even fantasize about it?

Because if he did, he just might want to ignore the truth later down the line and he would leave Sunny to rot. Of course he would never want to do that, so why would he try to think up an imaginary world of his own? That's so selfish. How could you even think that? You're the guide. You're supposed to help Sunny find the truth. That's your purpose. Knowing the truth. Knowing the way to the truth. Always acknowledging the truth.

Oh. You. What do you want?

Gonna order something or cause trouble? As usual!

“...are you going to do? You are doing nothing but sitting around and wasting everyone’s time.”

There is a voice speaking, high pitched and biting in tone. There is no vocal response given, but soon a scoff could be heard as the stranger went on.

“You already know everyone, why waste time bonding with them again? Over and over you’ve done this, you’re resetting when you don’t even die sometimes. Why?”

Again there is a pause, but this time a shaky breath is made, and the silence grows more stagnant before the voice, once again, goes on.

“...It’s them, isn’t it?”

Silence.

“So they’re still stirring around. You should listen to them, you know. Killing them is better for the monsters in the end. What future do they have on the surface? The humans will slaughter them all, even if you save them.”

Quiet sniffles and haggard breathing come from the one the voice was speaking to...

“Aww, don’t like what I have to say? Yet you’re still here. You’re lost and you know it. You know they won’t stop hounding you, until you start to listen, right...? They must have chosen you for a reason, even as useless and stubborn as you are. Soon, you’ll see we’re right. You haven’t freed them just yet because of that...”

Soon after the clearing falls completely silent, whatever stranger had been there apparently had slunk away back into the shadows. Leaving a tearful child behind for whomever may come across them.
