hi! I really want to get into streaming on yt this year, and out of everyone that ive been watching, ur the one that I have decided to get help from bc I like ur content! so my question is how exactly do u stream on yt? (how do YOU do it, not just doing it in general) I really like ur tomadachi life streams u have been doing lately, so ig that goes into my question too. thanks!
also I freaking LOVEEEEE ur content.
I'd love to help!
To be honest, I kinda cheaped out on streaming equipment. I have a $25 microphone and a $30 capture card. A lot of streamers spend $100+ on these things, but I don't have that kind of money so I bought what was cheapest with good reviews. I'll link the microphone and capture card I bought at the end of the post. The microphone works great, although it does peak the audio sometimes. The highest resolution the capture card supports is 1080p without having your gameplay lag, which I don't mind because 1080p is already a pretty good quality standard, but you'll have to find a more expensive card if you want the resolution of your gameplay even higher.
Then I set up everything through OBS. OBS WILL BE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND. It's super easy to hook up a capture card and microphone to it and there's millions of tutorials that show you step by step how to do so. Literally just google "how to set up a microphone in OBS" and you'll get a ton of different videos on it.
I also installed an app called veadotube mini, which allows me to have a little avatar of myself in the corner that moves when I talk. I drew the avatar myself with 4 different expressions: mouth closed, mouth open, and a blinking variant for both mouth closed and mouth open so that she has a little blink. You can then just import the window into OBS as a game capture, enable the transparent background option for your game capture, then set the background to actually be transparent in veadotube mini. Super easy stuff.
Although, since I'm using an avater, I'm not quite sure how cameras work on OBS. So if you're planning on having your actual face on screen that's something you'll have to figure out on your own.
Then, after your layout looks all nice and stuff, you can just connect your YouTube account to OBS through OBS's settings. Once your account is connected, you can schedule a live stream through YouTube Studio, and connect that stream to OBS my clicking the "manage broadcast" button in the bottom right. Then, when you're ready to start your stream, just hit the "start streaming" button and you're done. OBS is a godsend who basically just does everything for you and connects you to YouTube's servers. Whatever the layout and audio you set up in OBS is will be what's streamed on YouTube, so you can tab away from OBS for a moment and it won't affect your stream at all!
I play my games directly through OBS by opening up just the capture card in another window. You'll need a capture card if you decide to stream a console (Nintendo, Xbox, Playstation, etc.), but if you stream a game that's already on your computer (like something on Steam) then you won't need a capture card.
Hope you found this helpful, and I wish you so much luck in your streaming career!! :3
