Have you written any brats? As someone who can be one, I would love to read you write about it. The precarious balance between being witty, cheeky and pushing without actually hurting my husband's feelings is so thrilling, exciting. Pushing him to edge, begging without words for what all naughty girls deserve. Knowing he is more than patient enough to make me long. Or maybe I just like regressing down a decade or so to when I was a teenage brat.
I think there's that element of brattiness in many of the submissive characters in my stories. There's good examples in Control, Carrot and Stick, and Grave.
As you correctly point out, a brat should be wilful and headstrong, and witty and cheeky, as these provide a context for erotic escalation, and threats make brats wet. Such threats have nothing to do with intimidation and everything to do with giving the top the opportunity to give her the attention she craves.
I see being bratty as a special kind of improvised erotic flirting. When playing any character, it helps to know your motivation. In this case, a brat should know her goal is not to evade her spanking, but to achieve it in the most memorable way.
Impro is about continuing offering your partner ways of developing the shared scene in the most satisfying way. Being cheeky isn't a block or an insult, it's an invitation that says: please be stern and strict with me.
A brat knows and accepts her ultimate fate is to have a sore pink bum and her wetness dribbling between her legs. Her challenge is simply: how do I make that happen in the most fun and exciting way?
That's the joy of being a brat.
