from the signs of affection prompts: a surprise kiss with emmrich/strife?
- @gallamorte
Emmrich keeps his distance from Strife at the Veiljumpers encampment. It's a perfectly reasonable thing, not born of shame - he has a task to assist Bellara with, and Strife appears to be holding court with some of the Veiljumpers. New recruits, perhaps - but Emmrich does not mean to bother him, watching from a distance.
He speaks calmly, clearly, a firm tone that brokers no argument, but not in the manner of a poor teacher. Emmrich has had plenty of experience with those, people who demand excellence from their students without offering consideration, patience, or anything to warrant the deference they demand.
Strife is a leader, in a place that is dangerous, and perhaps it is normal and of merit that the people he leads are not distracted by what he is to Emmrich. It is a thought that does not rankle; he has no sense that there is any shame on Strife's part, either.
Still, it is a surprise when Strife spots him across the camp, and lifts a hand to beckon him over.
"So until the wolves have been moved away from the west ruins, nobody goes anywhere solo," he's saying to the Veiljumpers as Emmrich approaches. "Buddy up. Here comes mine."
Several heads swivel towards him, and Emmrich does not preen, but it is a close thing when Strife is smiling just so at him. He reaches for Emmrich's hand as soon as he's close enough, and pulls him the rest of the way, catching Emmrich against his chest and tugging him down by the collar to kiss him.
"How about it?" he says, when he pulls away, smirking as the Veiljumpers whisper and giggle. "Come be my buddy while I check the trails."
"I would enjoy nothing more," Emmrich says. "Only I'm here with Bellara, she has requested my insight."
He looks back over whence he came; Bellara is grinning at him, two thumbs-up raised at him, bidding him leave to go with Strife. She sees the romance of the request plainly, and Emmrich considers that she will expect be told a little detail of their time together later. It is a fair trade, he thinks, for her consideration.
Strife chuckles as he dismisses the Veiljumpers, and pulls Emmrich close to kiss him again.

And Your Heart (how it beats): Dellamortes in Love
Part 10: Yours to Tame (home at last)
<<< Part 9 / Part 11 >>>
Title: Yours to Tame (home at last) Series: And Your Heart (how it beats): Dellamortes in Love Pairing(s): Lucanis x Rook, past Rook x OC, minor Teia x Viago Rating: G Length: ~6.8k Status: Complete
After their vacation to Lago di Novo, Embria knows what she wants. But, before she can reach for it with both hands, there are a few conversations she needs to have first.
aka Where Embria went when she left Lucanis alone for over a week in Yours to Tame (crave your taste).
This one takes place during Chapter 32 of Yours to Tame (crave your taste). It also heavily relies on the reader knowing about and remembering the characters and conversations from Chapters 37-43 of Say My Name (say it twice), if you'd like a refresher :).
Featuring: Mother-Daughter Relationships, Father Figures, difficult conversations, and braving your past to build a future, etc.,
Excerpt:
“Strife?” She said, once they were a safe distance from the campfire. He sighed, bowed over the table with a large map of Arlathan rolled out on it. “Rook.” When she didn’t speak right away, he glanced over his shoulder at her. “Everything all right?” She nodded, but maybe too quickly because he stood and crossed his arms over his chest. “Do you know where Clan Morlyn is right now?” She asked, the words flushing from her. “The clan?” He asked, blinking. “Should be at the northeast edge of Arlathan this time of year.” Strife gave her a worried look. “Why?” Embria looked away, tightening her bun. “I need to go home,” she said. “What? Why?” Strife stepped closer, his voice low. “Are things not going well in Treviso?” To her surprise, he sounded angry. Like he’d fight Lucanis if he’d hurt her. Which was stupid – Lucanis could kill Strife before he’d stepped three feet into Treviso. But, if he had hurt her, he wouldn’t even put up a fight. He’d just let Strife do the job. She shook her head. “The opposite, actually.” Embria shot him a shaky smile. “I’m going to marry him.”

strife/emmrich, "you're beautiful like this"
In Arlathan, behind a ruin that acts as the Veil Jumper's base, there is a little vegetable garden. In it all manner of things are growing well; courgettes and parnips and peas and beans tied to wooden stakes, cabbages and beets with leafy tops splaying over the soil. The carrots are in a raised bed to avoid a type of fly that likes their roots.
Strife is amongst it all pulling up weeds. "May I help?" Emmrich asks, as he kneels next to Strife.
"They're just normal weeds," Strife says.
Emmrich had helped with a more magical weed problem some time ago, wild fast-growing things that had attempted to choke out the plants, as well as a few unfortunately Veil Jumpers. Nobody had come to harm, only the crop suffering.
"I know," he says brightly. "I have done my time tending the Memorial Gardens, I understand the need to keep them at bay, magical or not."
Strife sits back on his heels, rubbing at his nose with the back of his hand and returns a smile so soft and bright it makes Emmrich's chest flutter.
"You look beautiful like this," says Emmrich.
"What, covered in dirt?"
"Yes. It's charming. That you tend this, to keep the Veil Jumpers in good food."
"It's not so selfless," Strife says. "The Veil Jumpers know to leave me in peace when I'm in the garden."
It is not a veiled comment, but Emmrich considers the possibility of the meaning anyway.
"Would you like me to leave you to your sprouts, my love?"
Strife catches his wrist as if he is worried Emmrich means to leave. He hesitates then, looking at the dirt spread from his hand to Emmrich's. He links their fingers together before Strife can pull away, and leans across to press his lips to his bared shoulder.
"You bring me peace," Strife says seriously.
Emmrich sighs happily. Grave or garden, he's never minded a little dirt.

Under An Ancient Light (one shot, explicit)
Emmrich and Strife are set to have some fun in a lovely spot in Arlathan forest. They are stumbled upon by a most unexpected pair.
---
The voices he can hear coming towards the clearing do not sound like Veil Jumpers.
“...before we’ve even reached our destination, you great lummox.”
“You like it, kadan. Who are you saving face for, the birds?”
Two figures break into the clearing, tousling in the manner of young lovers, though neither of them are young, even being charitable. One is a stranger, the most enormous qunari that Emmrich has ever seen, with wide horns and wide shoulders and an eyepatch. The other, he recognises, even with an advancement of years. They both stop, staring at him. Dorian’s face is the first to change into something positively lascivious.
“Professor Volkarin,” Dorian says pleasantly, “how nice to see you.”
“It’s Emmrich, Dorian. You haven’t been my student in a long time.”
He says nothing of their current circumstance, but perhaps that merits informal address, too.

Met up with the bestie, Baby Bel!
Saw some sights, dealt with some wild magic.
Then fought an ogre and almost exploded retrieving an ancient artifact.
But, made it back safe! Strife forgot to hide his relief, and Rook will never let him forget it.
