Well I got three votes for Did the Math and two (more if I count my best friend and long-suffering beta reader) for both Star Light, Star Bright and Houseguest. I’m rather partial to The Rock and Self Help Book Section. I can’t help but see the Amazon listing with the cover of Necromancy for Dummies highlighting the bright yellow and black cover and easy-to-follow diagrams (Look inside...if you dare). I imagine it shares space with Eldritch Summoning in Five Easy Steps and How To Put A Curse on Anyone. My brain is weird.
Funny, I didn’t consider Did the Math one of the stronger stories.
I love my math nerd friends. Thanks, everyone.
also I'm really done with my head being a more accurate barometer than the local weather station Welcome to migraineville. Population: me
None of the flash fiction made the cut. I just got a response on them. This is the first one that hurts. I had pretty high hopes for this market. The publication states they’re open to established and emerging authors--y’know, pro and newbie. They didn't pay much for a story. Better than pro rates for the genre per word, but the stories were only 15 words long. I never expected them to accept all of them. But one, surely.
One of these is good enough, isn’t it? One of these is good enough to buy. One of these is worth the price of a coffee.
The email did invite me to submit again during their other reading periods, so I suppose their reaction wasn’t “Please take up a different hobby. We suggest hunting, as you already murdered the English language.” I guess there’s that. Also (on the heels of soul-crushing despair. alright alright that might be a slight exaggeration) I felt motivated to finish more stuff. That’s good. I guess.
Since I don’t think I’ll be able to sell these stories elsewhere I might as well share them. I’ll put them in a separate post.
That leaves the anthology, and quite frankly I don’t think I’ve got a real shot at that one. There are writers in there whose works I’ve read. Myself. In actual published books. That I bought. With real actual money. I’ll probably hear back from them in about a week based on their previous email.
It must take a special kind of arrogance to be a writer: Here’s a Thing. I made it up in my head. Now it’s in your head. You should tell other people so it can be in their heads too.
Got the results on one submission. They declined to publish. Oh well. Now to shop for somewhere else to submit it. Still nothing on from the anthology or the flash fiction.
I’ve also discovered The Submission Grinder, which is way way less porny than it sounds, so that should help with finding potential publishers.
my electric kettle died.
I am sorely vexed

2: Share idea on blog.
3: Get amazing positive response. (Yay!)
4: Realize you have only the vaguest notion of how to implement great idea.
5: Question button + Google.
I’m working on step 5.
I have two cats. One around ten pounds, the other maybe six.
In my living room, I have a sofa. I have two chairs and a bench. And carpet. I have a horizontal scratching surface plenty big enough for a cat.
So why is it the cats insist the best place to be is draped across my shoulders and meatloafed on my chest? Respectively?
Really guys, I love you and appreciate the snuggles but you're not transparent. I can't see my computer. Or type.
