Bass Rosin: an Opinion

Hey guys! I'm trying to be more active with this tumblr, and I haven't found a whole lot of bass players/bass-related posts, so I thought I'd make one 😊 I thought I'd start with a list of some bass rosin that I've tried and liked, so here we go-

Pop's: pop's is a go-to rosin for any and every bass player. Made by a double bassist of the Houston Symphony, pop's was made (almost exclusively) for humid environments- i.e. Houston, TX. It's very sticky, has a "tough" grip, and is good as a mostly orchestral rosin.

Kolstein All-Weather: I started using Kolstein bass rosin about 4 years ago, in place of my pop's rosin, and have used it pretty much ever since. It's not as sticky as pop's rosin, but has a nice grip without too much residue. I like it for both orchestral and soloistic playing. (Kolstein also has a cello rosin as well)

Melos Dark/Light: This is a rosin I've just recently started trying, and I can already say that I enjoy it. Right now, I'm using the Melos Light rosin, which was made more-so for spring/summer weather, and it has been really really nice. It's very similar to Kolstein, as it's not super sticky, but does have a really nice grip without being too "bassy". I definitely like this rosin more for soloistic playing.

These are my personal top 3 rosins that I've found work for me, but if you're looking at trying to experiment, then I hope this helps with any questions or hesitations.
