They make a day of doing everything Coney Island has to offer. The Ferris wheel's last thing because they want to drag time for all she's worth. By nightfall, the taller boy leans down and takes his hand with a promise to meet back in exactly one year in front of the Wonder Wheel.

Fourteen

One more year.

Fifteen

He spots him sitting down at a nearby table. Black hoodie pulled over his head. Brown hair in his face. He would know those brown locks anywhere. Bucky.

Sixteen

Steve starts to drum his fingers against his leg. Nervous and excited. He waits for this day more than Christmas, New Years, Halloween, and his birthday all combined.

Seventeen

Stevie. Flashes of every time Bucky has ever called him flow like a movie in his mind by the nickname. Memories big and small, but Bucky the star. Only a second goes by, but he watches all the same.

Eighteen

He waited three hundred and sixty-five days

Nineteen

"Bucky?" The name feels like it was punched out of him, and he nearly doubles over.

Twenty

His last thought is of being wrapped in dark sheets, with muscular arms and the smell of peaches in summer enveloping him in an affectionate embrace.

Twenty-One

Steve had no idea what the man was holding in his hand, but what he did know is that he’d gladly lie to make the man stay.

And the DJ in the corner wasn’t some shitty $200-dollar-a-night hack job that Stark had hired off Craig's List. No. Bucky recognized her because he followed her on fucking Instagram! Eliza Zan was a club DJ who toured all over the East Coast, and Bucky was legit star struck. Like, legit, legit. Too legit to quit, legit!
