Science/Math Learning Suggestions
Hi all,
I am a college graduate, and I miss learning things. It really bothers me that I learned how to do so much in school, but I was too worried about grades to slow down and learn the theories and tools that could have helped me grasp a better understanding of the material. And there’s just so much to go back and learn! I don’t know where to start.
So I’m looking for suggestions.
For biology (general, virology, immunology, genetics, neuro) and chemistry (mainly general and organic):
I would really like to review common lab techniques to make sure I know how they work rather than just how to use them.
I would also like to brush up on nomenclature, common reactions, cell functions, etc.
For math and physics:
Like many students, I know how to use an equation. But I want to go back and learn about how the equations we are taught to use (e.g. the Pythagorean equation) were originally derived. I honestly just find that sort of thing fascinating.
I’d also like to get a better understanding of calculus and statistics. I was okay in differential calculus, but was completely lost in integral somewhat due to the teaching methods. I know how to do basic statistics, but I have no idea how any of it works!
I’m also looking for any resources to get better at mental math or general arithmetic (e.g. daily practice material).
I’m really looking for deeper understanding. I had a professor once who made us draw tons of functions on coordinate planes. It was tedious, but I came out understanding the functions better and could draw them faster.
So if anyone knows of any blogs I could follow, groups I could join, or books I could read that would help in these endeavors, please let me know! Or if you were ever like me, please share your experiences and suggestions? Do you have any suggestions about the order of topics or ways to study these things efficiently on your own?
And lastly, if you’re interested in doing something similar and need a study partner or want to start a study group, let me know!
