Me when The Ghost betrays Jude because “he served Dain, not Jude”:
Seriously, of all the secret traitors, the Ghost HAS to be the most stupid of them all. WTF is “because he served Dain”. Balekin is LITERALLY Dain’s murderer!
Jude worked her ass off in the last book to AVOID putting Balekin on the throne! And you know, the Undersea is also ALIGNED with Balekin. Also, the Court of Shadows was never categorized as blindly loyal to Dain or in love with him in any way. In fact, they seemed to be aware exactly of what kind of guy Dain was, that he was a politician not a saint, etc. Also, they worked for him for money. Why should The Ghost, who is LITERALLY HALF-HUMAN, somehow have this irrational undying loyalty towards Dain.
Plus, there are PLENTY of better candidates for secret traitor! Like, say:
Taryn, because of a possible resentment towards Jude for pissing off the Fae and getting “rewarded” with a position of power.
Oriana, because Jude sent Oak to the mortal world, not allowing so much as for Oriana to contact her adoptive son, let alone make sure that he is safe.
Cardan, because he resents Jude pushing him around via the whole oath bullshit and basically tricking him into becoming a puppet king.
Those are just THREE examples! Three examples with plausible, in-character reasons to betray Jude. And yet, somehow, it has to be The Ghost, for the stupidest reason possible.
I'm done. No more fanfics. Nothing related to that crapstorm. I'm distancing myself as far away from it as possible.
