luke scuffed his foot against the ground, eyes cast downwards. he couldn’t look his mother in the eye ----- not after what happened. he didn’t like to talk about school. while he’d made one friend, and a few more not long after, he just never quite fit in. he was never really sure why that was. sure, some kids liked him and he got along with a lot of them, the boys from his first day of kindergarten still weren’t very nice to him.
that’s why he came up with a split lip and tears pooling over. he was seven now. he shouldn’t be so upset by these things. he shouldn’t cry so much, he realized. that’s why the boys picked on him so much. they told him it was girly to cry. of course, luke never bought into that. he didn’t think there was anything wrong with crying ----- boys could cry too ! ------ but for whatever reason, they just liked to make luke’s life hell.
the worst part of it, though, was that they broke his model of a spacecraft he’d made all himself. he’d been excited to show han, but they’d taken it from him and tossed it to one another until it fell to the ground and smashed into three different pieces. luke had been so upset that he pushed one of the boys out of the way to get to it. they didn’t like that very much.
he wipes at his eyes and shakes his head. his cheeks were red with embarrassment. “ ... they broke my model. ” he told his mom in such a quiet voice you would have to strain to hear. he pulled it out of his bag to show her, while also revealing his scrapped hands in the process. “ they broke it. ”
