Three Radically Stylish Radiator Ideas
Radiators, they’re rarely considered focal features in a room…but they totally should be. Think about it: they take up so much space. I’m sat in my kitchen right now, and the radiator takes up nearly an entire wall. That presents the perfect opportunity for showing off.
Beautiful radiators can really make a lot of difference to the room and to neglect them is a huge oversight. Here, we’re going to explore three ways that you can create radically stylish radiators.
1. Take a leaf out of the Scandinavians book. Scandinavians use their rooms as a canvas, and then they colour them in with accessories. It creates a clean and minimalist look: the room is the canvas; the accessories (i.e. the radiators in this case) bring the style.
Here, you will have a relatively plain room – usually white and a decorative radiator. In my opinion, a radiator that will work best here would be a cast-iron column radiator in a bright colour. This matches a modern design with a modern radiator, and it looks amazing. It’s suitable for a “fun” style house – not a “designer” house strictly speaking.
2. Take a leaf out of the designer home. By designer, we mean that very angular, masculine look that’s popular today. Here, style is all about combining futuristic design with functionality. It’s much less about creating a “cosy” atmosphere, and much more about creating a “cool” atmosphere.
The type of stylish radiators that work best here are unusual designs, especially vertical radiators. There are plenty of cool examples of this on the market. For instance, I particularly like the Aeon Speira – it’s a helix shape and is literally a column in the centre of the room. It’s awesome. Aeon, Bisque, and Vogue have some amazing designs.
3. Take a leaf out of the Victorians book. If there’s’ something the Victorians did very well, it was create stylish spaces. You can’t beat an old fashioned (style, not necessarily an actual antique radiator! They don’t necessarily work that well) cast-iron radiator. Alternatively, add a radiator guard in the Victorian style. Both of these work very well, especially in the Victorian terraces that are particularly popular in the UK.
