#slaburday turned in to #SADurday after the #suburbanelectricsawmill pooped out on me. I'm getting some deflection on the bar, which is causing an uneven cut, straining the motor and generally just not working. I'm hoping a new chain fixes the issue. Didn't even get one board cut properly. If that doesn't fix it, I'm guessing I've reached the limit of my mini electric mill. Maybe I can get a #binfordtools sticker to crank up the power. Next stop is a 550cc monster. On the plus side, check out the inside of this mimosa tree! Not a species you see too often at the lumber yard. The cherry is at 18%, the maple still way wet at 38% and some beech my father in law road-salvaged today is at 22%. That's just the cut end so it's probably more like 30 inside. The cherry should be ready soon but the maple needs a lot longer. Finally slabbed the cherry stump I've had out back for years. It was very dry, about 18" long and maybe 12" wide. The @granberginternational #suburbanelectricsawmill did great. I slabbed them all at 1.5" so my final dimensions once planed and sanded will be about 1". My method was to attach a 2x4 to the base with 2" screws, then clamp it in to the workmate to stabilize it. Next I screwed a 2x6 to the top and used that as the sawmill guide for the first cut. The rest of the cuts just follow the flat top of the previous. Not sure what I'll do with these, but I'm leaning towards live edge serving trays. I'll need to do some bow tie inlays on a couple since the old log split, but that will just add a little extra character😉 These are all stacked with stringers in the kiln (shed) until I get my moisture meter. First cut with the #suburbanelectricsawmill was a smashing success! This is a 24"x6" silver maple log, about half dried out. Cut smooth as a chainsaw through butter. The only drawback (besides the mess, but that was expected) is that it seems to spatter oil as it cuts. Not sure if that's the saw, me, a sideways orientation or what, but it's a minor issue as long as my well doesn't dry up.
