I was cleaning out my dresser so I can paint it and move it to our new bedroom. I found this box of lumber crayons from my dad’s stuff. Not sure how old it is but I’m thinking at least 50+ years.

While I’m wrapping up a few projects, this batch of spalted maple that I cut last fall on the bandsaw is ready for the planer. I let the logs dry a bit without sealing the ends, so they split. I’ll need to do some epoxy work, but I’ve got the right stuff to make that look good now. Moisture content is right at 8% and since it’s like 98% humidity these days, I think that’s pretty good. Im like a year late to the epoxy game, but I've gotta do something with these cracks in the spalted silver maple. @ecopoxy seemed like the right stuff for a food contact board. I also picked up a sample pack of @blackdiamondpigments_com to play with, but these will all be natural color fills. I did the spring log shuffle today. Brought the mostly dry logs into the shop to be milled and took the slabbed logs into shed to dry. Last week, I attempted to mill some big wet maple on the bandsaw mill and that went about as well as milling dry hardwoods with the chainsaw mill did last fall. Both big failures. So now I've got my wet and dry stock located in the optimal positions for the spring milling season. An hour here or there will get through this pile. This is all "sustainably sourced" silver maple. Check back in my feed for the first batch of charcuterie boards I made from the first log.
