This week we spent our time working on beginning to learn the songs:
- The One That Got Away - Katy Perry
- The Boy Is Mine - Monica & Brady
When we were rehearsing Jolene, we changed it by adding 3 part harmonies to it, to make it more complex and to make it sound better overall. We also made sure that were all in the vocal ranges of each band member. When rehearsing The One That Got Away, we also added 2 part harmonies, and changed the key from the original to make it more in our vocal ranges so it was easier for Demi and I to sing. For Black Heart, we added a two part harmony. Finally, for The Boy is Mine, instead of following the original song, we are learning a cover of the song by a duet that we saw on Youtube, because we thought this sounded better and more interesting than the original.
We also came up with a few more ideas for songs that we could cover on our set list, but we hadn’t begun to think about practising these ones yet.
I think our time could have been spent more efficiently if we sat and rehearsed many songs in one session and reflected on what we could have improved on. However this week, we just began to learn these new songs, and tried different ones throughout each lesson to get to grips with each of them.
Looking at our time plan, we have stuck to it quite well, as we’ve just begun to learn each songs, and by the end of next week, we should have solidly learned at least 2/3 songs that we won’t need the lyrics for.
My plan for next week is to begin finalising our venue for our gig, and putting plans for the actual gig into place. This will involve coming up with different poster and merchandising ideas to promote our event and let the public know about it. However, the venue, date, time etc will need to be sorted before these posters are put out/designed.
