For the alphabet asks; L. Say something nice about a character you aren't particularly fond of (or something like that.)
Um, Rick…has…nice eyeballs?
For that unwritten/unpublished fics thing - #11. I don't even care what fandom, I just like it when people are excited about what they're writing/thinking about writing.
11. Is there any scene you can't wait for people to react to when reading? Why?
For the few people who will read it when I eventually publish it, I hope they can experience how deeply intense the character's realization of his reincarnated past actually is. I hope they get sucked into the mind of this minor character as the walls of reality twist and bend like they did for me while imagining how that character would breath through that moment. Trying to find space for the weight of yet another unimaginable thing on top of all their current traumas. I love the big reveal and how it feels like he is standing on the edge of this yawning, terrifying precipice that he can't escape from. But if he could, would he? Because the truth that is starting to spread through him like the way blood flow returns to a limb after pins and needles is enticing and real and he can't help wanting to reach out and grab at that big, fat unknown.
For the fic ask, 10. If unpublished, can you show a sneak peek of what you've written?
You pick the fandom.
Thanks! And I'm much relieved to find that I actually DO have something written that I haven't posted yet. My writing process over the last few months has been by and large to mull over it in my head and then fling some words at a document before posting on a chapter-by-chapter basis, so I haven't got a lot of writing that is writing right now. BUT here's something from my American Gods high school AU that got shoved aside in January by other ideas. So, here's probably-the-opening of chapter 3 of 'American Kids':
“Yo! McCabe!” Tech waved at her from his electric unicycle, and hopped off, tucking it under one arm.
“So, what the fuck was that all about earlier?”
Tech stuck his hands in the pockets of his ludicrous pants, and grinned. He looked a little sheepish. “Yeahhhh well, it was worth a try - so, here’s the thing. It’s Sweeney’s birthday on Friday, right? It’s his eighteenth birthday - I know, he’s fucking ancient. Crazy, huh? Anyway, turns out I’m kinda double booked.”
“And - ?”
Tech stared at her a moment, groaned, and leaned in confidentially and way too close. “I’m literally the guy’s only friend.” The gap-toothed little weirdo straightened up and made a face that she would describe as expressive, if she was feeling generous.
Laura, however, was not feeling particularly generous right then. She recalled the message she’d seen about ‘Friday being a no-go’, and with it the image of an extremely crushed Ginger Minge celebrating his legal adulthood as a Billy-No-Mates sophomore. She knew what was being asked of her.
Looking for a fic on AO3 - Darcy has been missing for some time and Natasha finds her in Belarus (I think?) at the very beginning of the story, with no memory of where she's been and how she ended up there. NOT "Left Behind." I suspect the story was taken down, or at least abandoned, because I can't find it. :/

You can put toothbrushes or something in the mug

you gotta smash a plate, or a glass, or something else you don't care about, real quick. these things do come in threes but you can divert the bad luck to a kitchen plate instead of a treasure

Also, you can put pens in it?

Two decades since 1997. I know, it's impossible, but it's true.

Oh no :(
HOW DID I MISS THAT IT’S TWO DECADES
HOW HAS IT BEEN TWENTY YEARS SINCE I WENT TO NORWAY FOR CHRISTMAS
I mean. I guess. It’s. Yeah. My cousins are dads. That was the 90s. It’s been a while.
I AM SO OLD
I am so hesitant to smash anything on purpose though, what if it doesn’t work? I’m such a hoarder I can’t think of a single breakable thing that I wouldn’t be super upset to break. I don’t think I can bring myself to smash anything. I’ll just have to wait and see what breaks.
I might try to glue it together and put a dried floral arrangement in it. That might work. Since I make those a lot, and all. I never make them for myself though, hmmm.
Considering two possible injuries to result in unexpected death: through and through small caliber gsw to the upper arm that causes a (venous?) clot that later migrates to the heart, OR bullet fragment under the arm, hits something vital, entry wound overlooked in a hasty evacuation, slow internal bleed, dead in the morning. No immediate medical care available. Is 1st one possible? Would 2nd necessarily produce much external bleeding as well?
Hey there! Let’s dive right in.
The first one is theoretically possible but would take a few days. A clot like that needs time to build up. It’s essentially a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), that breaks off.
It wouldn’t affect the heart though... it would affect the lungs. It would break off, go through the heart just fine, but get caught in the pulmonary vasculature. If it’s big enough, it can cause deathyness.
But Number 2 is your better option. You could even have an entry-no-exit against the underside of the arm, and the character’s chest “feels funny” on that side, and we discover that the bullet slid along the humerus into the chest and caused a pneumothorax on that side. Maybe twenty minutes later they’re gasping and a half hour after that they’re dead from a tension pneumothorax?
Can I suggest a number 3 as well? Bullet strikes brachial artery, big messy bleedy-outy. Or maybe it’s a nick, a slow arterial bleed, so the wound looks okay-ish, gets wrapped with big dressings, and then the character basically bleeds to death inside the dressings?
Just thoughts!

Me again, again. As far as I know, "belay that" is navy-speak for "don't carry out that order/I changed my mind," but what's the Army equivalent? I've found a couple of possibles on my own - "disregard," or one place said "check that." In my context the officer is calling on certain soldiers for a task and then decides to send someone different, so it's "take X -- [disregard/check that/whatever], take Y and Z." What's the most natural term in this situation?
Hello again! I’m still staring at your longer ask; trying to figure out how much I can actually help with and how much is just rule of reality. You’re looking for “as you were.” It’s used in exactly the context you’re looking for. “Next formation time will be zero five -- as you were -- zero six hundred.” The command can be given either immediately as in that example sentence or after the order has been fully issued. One might also say “as I was” when you’ve made a verbal mistake that wasn’t part of a command. “Disregard” has its time and place too, particularly on comms usage, although on comms I’ve also heard “correction.”
