THE ROAD TO SUCCESS IS NOT STRAIGHT: THE RISE OF OMAHLAY
Recently I was watching, Omahlay's interview on Nancy Osime hosted HipTV's #Trending and OmahLay made one statement that struck me. He said,
"I was first a rapper, before I became a producer, before last year(2019) I decided to be a singer and that was how I blow"
Like the guy had to change what he was doing three times. I'm not trying have a #MeToo moment but I can relate because I have made so many changes in my artistic direction to the extent that I change my stage name three times(from Emayell to Igarraboy to Itopa Ozi Suru). My friend, value obinna even complained that these name changes could be detrimental to my brand. I agreed but I told him I had no choice, I just felt it's high time for a change and me I no send, I go do am.
Some people still call me Emayell and Igarraboy, my songs are still on hulkshare.com/Emayell & SoundCloud.com/igarraboy but I will still perform it as Itopa Ozi Suru. Anytime am performing on stage, it is as if there are 3 artistes on stage, fans will be screaming three different names LOL.
All this just buttresses the fact that the road to success is not straight. Just like OmahLay and I, it involves making detours in job, style, brand, name, career, location, team etc. Some people see changes as a sign of no direction, no focus or confusion. Though sometimes it can be but more time than not it's not.
The universe is a place of changes. The only constant thing is change. And not just subtle changes oh, extreem changes that are hard to believe. From the extreme cold of harmathan to the scotching heat of raining season, the earth is not afraid of the rigors of change. It relishes it. Trees lose all their leaves and are starved of water for months before they can taste water the next season. Nature enjoys changes that is the earth will exist till eternity in one form or the other because it will always find a way to adjust to changes.
But humans hate changes; that is why it is scientifically proven that billions of years from now or even by tomorrow, human beings will be wiped out from the earth. Did somebody say "Corona?"
Before you start rejecting, casting and binding and pouring anointing all over your body to ward of my 'evil' scientific report, the reason for our soon to come annihilation lies in our dread to change.
An average human being just wants to be flexing, chilling having fun, turning up, 'enjoying' life etc. They don't want know problems, no stress(like Wizkid sang). The don't want no changes.
For there to be equilibrium there has to be a balance of opposite forces, left and right, up and down. For life to balance there has to be sadness and joy, life and death, fun and play etc. There this slang people use nowadays, "Life No Balance". Na lie! Life balance, if e no balance you go do explode by the meer action of opposing force around you. Life balance, na you no wan adjust to changes. Just like in Ecclesiaste 3 verses 1 to the end, which said there is time for everything and goes on to list a couple of good stuffs and a couple of bad stuffs many people will say God forbid to.
Yes! Of course changes are painful and scary. It is meant to be but at the end you will be the one benefitting it. Because every experience you have, both good and bad are useful ingredients to your success story.
Congrats to OmahLay on a very beautiful 2020; while we dey complain say the year no good, na the year him blow scatter.
