This book is for mature audience only (18+). It's currently still in early development and everything released is subject to possible change. The book will contain mature themes like slavery, abuse of any kind, sexual content (mostly optional), death of people and animals (the latter for food and sacrificial purposes), diseases, suicidal ideations, homophobia, transphobia, body dysmorphia, possible self mutilation, swearing, attempted non consensual intercourse (this is not a definitive list of triggers!).

There will be trigger warnings at the beginning of each chapter.

This is a work of fiction. Wherever possible and plausible, I incorporate information that is available about how Germanic tribes lived, how Germanic slaves were treated, what life in a Roman city looked like etc.

However, especially about the Germanic tribes, and about the timeframe I chose, there is only very little information. They did have runes but only used them for ritualistic purposes, never to write anything down; they had no written languages. Because of that, actual legitimate information is extremely scarce, and the information that we have is mostly written from an "enemy" point of view - the Romans.

I might somewhat substitute with things we know about the vikings, which technically also were Germanic tribes, but they lived quite some hundred years after the timespan I aim for the main story of this IF to be set in (which is essentially shortly after/around 14 CE).

Other choices and possible changes of actual facts/information about the historical times and people are made for flavour and for the readers' comfort.

Because some people don't seem to understand:

I am not a historian. I am merely one person researching and writing this as a hobby. It will not be 100% historically accurate. It is still a work of fiction and I take creative liberties.

Movies with massive budgets and several research assistants have historical inaccuracies in them. Please let me also have some.

After a skirmish close to the Roman border, you are captured and transported to a city. Your capturer forces you into slavery and sells you off to a patrician family — wealthy Romans, in social and political standings only underneath the Emperor.

Desperately you try to adapt to these new circumstances — you don't even speak their language, know nothing about their culture... It's a whole different world for you. At first, you struggle to even communicate with the people that call themselves your "familia". Will you manage to live amongst them, or will you refuse to obey the rules and orders you are unfamiliar with?

What will your fate be? Will you stay with your new family, will you try to escape to your old family, or will you look for a better future elsewhere?

Will you try to abandon old beliefs and adapt to new ones? Or is the hold of the old Gods too strong on you to let go?

And what role does the person who enslaved you really play in all of this?

I'm so happy the shadowban might be lifted! I’m finally seeing your posts on my dashboard again. I’m a fast reader, so it might seem like I’m not actually reading your posts, but I promise you, I am. 🥺

As for hobbies—there’s one that’s completely captivated me. I’ve come across it a lot in Chinese webnovels and I’m honestly considering incorporating it into my world. I think it’s called “dance painting”? It’s where someone uses a paintbrush while dancing to music, creating a live artwork on a canvas laid out on the floor or standing upright. It's elegant, soulful, and completely mesmerizing.

I haven’t read the demo yet, but from all the reaction asks you’ve been answering, I can already tell this story is going to top my list of must read IFs. And between you and me... I’m already Ing’s biggest fan. 👉👈

Now I can’t stop imagining how the ROs would react if they walked in on the MC mid-performance—gracefully drawing something breathtaking while their willow waist sways to the rhythm. 😳 I still haven’t decided who I want to romance yet... but this scene idea—it lives rent-free in my head.

Can I have this reaction for both games? Herm included too? I want to seduce both cousins, let them fall hopelessly for my charm, and then raise a little havoc… maybe even walk hand in hand into the sunset — one big happy family in love with the same person. (Lol. Kidding… or maybe I’m not. 🗿)

Dance painting sounds like such a cool thing, but I fear it might become a little too niche, and be too special since it's not something that's really known in these parts, I think? I could totally see it in a more Asian setting, perhaps? I think their dance styles would also fit much better, unless you'd do something like ballet!

Ing is such a massive sweetheart. To be fair, all ROs in Suevi are sweethearts in their own way. In Älvsbyn... it's debatable, I guess. :D

Herm might not necessarily fall for your charms, as he's not interested in MC in a romantic way, but you can certainly have a fun time with him before wreaking a little havoc. ;)

Suevi:

Hermanus (just for you): He would freeze in the door, looking at MC, before turning around after a few seconds with a smile on his face.

Ing: They would totally get lost in the way MC twirls around and paints at the same time, but quietly leave at some point. Even days later, they won't be able to get this scene out of their head. They might seem absent for some time lol

Aquila: Will legit sit down on the floor and just watch MC. They'll try not to disturb or interrupt MC but they'd fail miserably.

D: Will stand in the doorframe like a statue until MC notices. Then they'll hurry off with a bright red head.

Nefer: They'll sit down somewhere they can watch MC and the painting with an idle smile on their lips. But unlike Aquila, they'll let MC actually know they're there and watching.

Xen: They'll just close the door behind them and lean against the wall, a smile on their face and lost in thought while watching MC.

Saga: She will watch with interest. Will also ask you if you'd be interested in selling your pictures. She could probably arrange something.

Felix: He'll close the door and lean against it, barring it from entrance essentially. Will watch MC with a sly grin on his lips.

Ivar: He'll be fascinated by the dancing and simultaneous painting.

Mara: BEAUTIFUL. They'll watch you in a totally non-creepy way. Walk around you to spectate from every possible angle. With a big smile on her lips.

Orvar: They'll just... sit down somewhere and enjoy watching MC without showing much of a reaction, too busy focusing on what MC is doing. When MC is done, they'll ask if MC could draw them a picture like this.

I've always been drawn to detective/police crime stories, but for my IF I decided I wanted to explore the world of journalism more - there's something so compelling about characters who dig for truth, isn't there? The perfect setup for supernatural horror! And I'm absolutely loving your current story! As a complete history nerd, historical IFs hold a special place in my heart, especially when they dive into Ancient Rome and Germania (i always love learning more about the ancestors)

It wasn't kind to your mother when she died in childbirth, giving you a sibling in her stead.

It isn't kind to your father, whose life seems to be just as doomed as the marriage he arranged for you.

And now, it isn't kind to you as you're shepherded into battle against the Romans simply for the right to live freely.

When a group of traveling merchants arrive in your settlement during a three-year long campaign led by the Roman commander Germanicus, the adoptive son of Emperor Tiberius, it seems life is turning kind. But is it wishful thinking? Or are there omens you are attempting to turn a blind eye to?

As the newly anointed chieftain of your tribe, you must lead you people well, protect them, and continue the Germanic legacy. How will you persevere in this unkind life, chieftain?

Hi everyone!

Yes. I couldn't hold it back anymore. It's released.

Also, for the actual weekly update:

This week, I worked on Ing's POV of the Eostrae feast of the prologue, which will be available for the highest tiers on Patreon and Ko-Fi.

Also, I've been doing a lot of research, as in the story, MC now reaches Rome and, because the story plays in the very early Roman Empire, shortly after the fall of the Roman Republic, there is so much to read up on, and so much to know about considering buildings and areas.

For example, the Colosseum wasn't built for another 60 years, just like some other major sites. Marble was only brought to Rome when Augustus became the first Emperor (who is still alive when MC is brought to Rome), and only slowly the buildings were built with it instead of stone.

I have read a biography of Augustus, and I still have to read a biography of Tiberius, the second Emperor (who is also relevant for Suevi).

Two other very interesting books I am currently reading are "A Walk Through Ancient Rome: A Tour of the Historical Sites That Shaped the City," which is set in the late fourth century, and, "24 hours in Ancient Rome: A Day in the Life of the People Who Lived There". (Impressively long titles nobody can even remember half of...)

Both books are written by Philip Matyszak, and they are technically set too late (380ish CE and 137 CE instead of 14 CE), but it's the closest I could find, and I need to constantly check if things are realistic for the time I'm writing the story. Still, they give me a pretty good idea of how things were back then.

I've also found some great maps and other helpful resources about the time.

And I've re-read some of the Edda to look for some nice quotes I might be able to use for the story.

And... I've written some. Definitely not as much as I would have liked to (only 4.5k words this week), but there is just too much I really want to be certain about before incorporating it into the story, so reading, research and fact-checking it is for now. :)
