Min Yoongi had gone through 34 secretaries in the past 24 months, and each one of them left in tears. This fact alone should have warned you against taking the job, but the pay was too good to pass up. Surely you could put up with a billionaires temper-tantrums, right?
3 years after giving up on the nonsense that happened on the 10th Floor, and after a particularly unpleasant falling out with your former boss, you find yourselves back in each others lives. Can things have changed enough for you and Yoongi to have a fresh start? Or was the damage done too great?

His words hung, uselessly, in the air. He shifted from foot to foot, waiting for you to say something. Anything. To make this less awkward.
“Funny, after all this time, me bringing you the wrong coffee.”
Why were those the words that came out of his mouth? He had no idea. All he knew was they spilled out in a desperate attempt to lighten the uncomfortable silence that had fallen after you took a sip, made a face, and spat the coffee back into the cup without saying a word.
“I never brought you the wrong coffee,” You replied dryly. “You just never knew what you wanted until you drank it.”
Yoongi internally cringed. That wasn’t entirely true. He usually knew what he wanted, some part of him just liked to be difficult.
He thought better than to say that.
“So this is a nice office,” He tried instead. “Nice... Desk?”
“Thanks I built it myself,” You deadpanned.
“Really?”
“No.” You sat back in your chair, eyeing him warily. “Where’s Jungkook today?”
Right to the point. “He wasn’t feeling good,” Yoongi said smoothly.
You looked at your phone, read something, and raised an eyebrow. “No.”
“He took a personal day.”
“No.” You said again. “He didn’t. What’s going on?”
“Nothing, just felt like visiting our greatest investor in person today. Speaking of, is Changkyun available...?” Even now, after these past several years of only seeing you occasionally, after basically becoming strangers again, Yoongi felt strange lying to you. It didn’t feel good. Like he was reverting to ways he thought he had left behind in therapy.
“No, something’s up, and Jungkook’s being weirdly secretive about it, too,” You leaned forward on your desk, looking him directly in the eyes. “Is there something we should know? Changkyun’s noticed it, too, over the last several months.”
“Speaking of him,” Yoongi tried to deflect. “Where did you say he is?”
“He’s out,” You shrugged. “You can talk to me about further investment.”
Yoongi grimaced. “So that’s the thing,” He coughed uncomfortably. “Things aren’t--there isn’t. Uh. It isn’t looking like there’s going to be much left to invest in pretty soon. We’re drowning.” It felt wrong to actually say it out loud, even though the numbers had been saying it for so long.
Your eyebrows knitted together. “I thought you had this whole plan of recovery--”
Yoongi shook his head. “It’s not working fast enough. Changkyun already knows the other investors pulled out. I’m here in a last ditch effort to save some jobs.” He shifted again, then muttered. “I’m selling the company.”
“You’re what.”
Yoongi couldn’t tell if you actually couldn’t hear him, or if you were surprised. He didn’t think there was any chance you didn’t see it coming--As Changkyun’s assistant, he was sure you got an inside look at how terribly things were going.
“I’m selling the company,” He said again, louder this time. “I had my chance. I ran it into the ground. My employees shouldn’t suffer for that, though. If someone like Changkyun was to buy it, at least some of them could keep their jobs...”
“You didn’t run it into the ground,” You interrupted. “And you know that. It was failing long before you were put in charge, and even then you had to cater to investors who didn’t understand what was going on. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
Yoongi felt his cheeks heat up, and he coughed as an excuse to look away. “Thanks. For that. But,” He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling restless suddenly. “Credit where credit is due, I didn’t fix things fast enough.”
“That isn’t how that saying works,” You muttered, grabbing a sticky note and jotting down a note to yourself. “I’ll talk to Changkyun.”
“Thanks,” He said, taking a couple steps back towards the door.
“And Yoongi?” You added, giving him a small smile.
“Yeah,” He wasn’t sure what it was about the way you said it that made him nervous.
“It was good to see you.”
---
Ever the playboy, Jungkook was flirting with a waitress when you walked into the restaurant.
“I’m guessing the coffee was your doing?” You scoffed as you sat down in front of him.
“Who, me?” Jungkook smiled innocently. “I would never tamper with a beverage I picked up for my best friend. Even if my annoying boss changed my plans and said he was going to your office instead of me and took said beverage. I definitely wouldn’t put five packets of salt in it when he wasn’t looking.”
“That was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever--Why do you do things like this? What goes on in your head?”
His smile only grew. “Did you spit it out?”
“Who wouldn’t?” You raised an eyebrow.
Jungkook did a little triumphant fist pump. “How many times did he spit out your coffee when you worked for him?” He asked excitedly, not waiting for an answer. “And now he knows how it feels on the other side of that.”
You shook your head. “So petty,” You chastised.
“So funny,” Jungkook corrected without missing a beat.
“I would have appreciated a heads up,” You sighed, opening the menu only to have Jungkook reach over and slide it away from you.
“I knew you might be conveniently out of the office if I told you he would be dropping by,” He shrugged. “Also I kind of already ordered for you.”
“God damnit,” You complained, sitting back in your chair and crossing your arms. “You always do that. I’m capable of ordering my own lunch, butthead.”
“You’re always late!” He practically whined back. “And then I get awkward, and I feel bad for taking up a whole table and then some random mutters about me getting stood up--which, sorry, but do I look like I get stood up?--so I panic order!” He pouted. “Also. I have great taste. You always like what I get.”
You narrowed your eyes, but let it slide for now. “I didn’t mean a heads up about Yoongi coming in. I meant about his company tanking.”
“Oh,” Jungkook’s pout dropped. “He told you about that, huh? I guess it really is that bad...” He tilted his head to the side. “If it goes under, I might have to be a regular doctor...Y/n. I might have to see patients again.” He shivered dramatically, and you rolled your eyes.
“I’m sure you’ll be fine,” You assured him dryly. “I’m more concerned about Yoongi--He’s given it his all. What’s he going to do once it’s gone?”
Jungkook shrugged. “Actually live a little, I hope.”

Jungkook opened his eyes to his familiar bland ceiling and the complete silence of his apartment. He sighed, reaching over to his nightstand to glance at his phone. He was running late, his phone was on 2%, and he’d slept in his clothes. Great.
Jessica called last night. He was so excited for all of twenty seconds, then he realized that she wasn’t calling to catch up or hear him out. She said you were acting weird, and wanted to know if it was his fault. He dragged himself into the shower, trying to push the conversation from his mind.
He supposed it was karma, or something of the like. It didn’t seem quite fair; here he was trying to straighten up, and things were worse now than they were before.
“No, that’s not right,” He thought, swearing as some shampoo dripped into his eye. “I was bored out of my mind a few months ago. At least life’s interesting now.”
He took his time shaving and messing with his hair to get it just right, figuring that as distracted as Yoongi was recently, he wouldn’t notice if Jungkook was late.
If anyone ever asked Jungkook what he ate for breakfast, he would tell them a smoothie with protein powder and a bowl of fruit on the side. He was a doctor, after all; he had to set a good example. But the truth was, he ate froot loops or a poptart to start his day most of the time, and liked it that way.
He was halfway through his cereal when someone started ringing his doorbell insistently. He considered ignoring it because the only person who ever bothered him this early was his landlady, but not only was he sure he remembered to pay his rent this month, he was also fairly sure she was out of town.
He sighed, standing from his couch and making his way over to look through the peephole.
“What the hell...” He muttered, blinking before looking again. Once he was sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him, he opened the door a crack.
“What the actual--”
“Hey, Jungkook! Old buddy...” Taehyung smiled nervously, shifting the child held in his arms from one side to the other. A colorful bag sat at his feat with a teddybear sticking out. “How’s it going?”
Jungkook’s eyes flicked back and forth between the child currently pulling on Taehyung’s ears and giggling and Taehyung, noticing their matching jean jackets.
He had a million questions, but the one that tumbled from his mouth first was, “How do you know where I live?”
“Oh, ha, yeah,” Taehyung laughed. “Reverse phone look-up. Sorry. I just--I need a favor, and I thought I should ask in person.”
“Why would I do you a favor?” Jungkook asked, genuinely curious why Taehyung thought he was the person to ask.
“Because you’re a good guy?” Taehyung tried, and when Jungkook raised an eyebrow, he sighed. “I mean that. You seem like a decent person, and know I can count on you to put aside our differences and help me out.”
Jungkook suspected Taehyung was trying to manipulate him, because that was what Taehyung tended to do to people, but there was nothing in his eyes or mannerisms to suggest it.
“What--what do you want, then?” Jungkook relented. “I’m not saying I’ll do it. Just that I’ll hear you out...”
Taehyung smiled like he’d already won, and Jungkook suspected that he had. The little girl in his arms demanded to be put down, and shoved past Jungkook to get into his apartment as soon as Taehyung obliged.
“Sorry, Zoe can be a bit...” Taehyung’s voice trailed off as he watched his daughter sit down at Jungkook’s table and start eating his cereal. Jungkook’s eyebrows raised even further as he followed Taehyung’s gaze.
“Didn’t you feed her this morning?” Jungkook asked suspiciously, and was rewarded with a dubious look.
“Of course I did. She’s just going through this weird phase right now where she eats everything--It’s normal. Sort of.”
“Sort of?”
“Just don’t let her have books unsupervised, that’s all. Or plants... Or anything else, actually.” He pushed past Jungkook into the apartment, picking up his daughter and placing her in his lap while gently telling her that she couldn’t just eat other people’s food as he moved the bowl away from her.
“Look, Taehyung,” Jungkook sighed, sitting across from Taehyung and pushing the cereal back towards Zoe. “As weird and interesting as this is, and as many questions as I would love to ask, I need to leave in a few minutes. So what is it that you want?”
“I haven’t gotten to spend time with Zoe in two months because of complications with the court,” Taehyung began. “And I won’t be able to again for a while unless I can convince the judge that I’m a fit guardian--to do that, I need a regular job, something with a pay-stub, you know? It looks better than investments that could potentially backfire.”
“Not seeing what this has to do with me...” Jungkook frowned, getting up to grab the box of cereal and put it in front of Zoe--she’d already finished what was in front of her.
“Ugh, don’t you have something healthier? She’ll eat anything, she likes celery just as much,” Taehyung complained as Zoe carefully poured more into her bowl, still managing to spill a good amount onto the floor in the process. “Anyway, today’s my first day on the job, I have to be there. But I can’t take Zoe with me...”
Jungkook’s eyes widened as he finally figured out where he came in. “Oh my god, do I look like a babysitter to you?”
“Yes,” Zoe responded suddenly. “You look like a baby.”
“Can’t you hire a regular sitter? What about your parents, I’m sure your mom would love to--”
“My mother doesn’t know about my new job for... Reasons. And I don’t trust regular sitters.” Taehyung ran a hand through his hair, and Jungkook thought this might be the first glimpse he’s really had at whoever Taehyung was underneath all his bullshit and facades. “But you’re a doctor--surely if she’d be safe with anyone, it’d be with a doctor, right?”
It took Jungkook a moment to process that it wasn’t a rhetorical question. “Uh, no. Not necessarily,” Jungkook said slowly.
“I found your records while I was at the office the other day--your background check, employment history... You did your residency at a children’s hospital, and you worked so well with kids they begged you to stay.”
Jungkook shifted somewhat uncomfortably, clearing his throat. “I don’t--I don’t appreciate the fact that you went through my file and I--”
“Please, just watch her for a few hours?” Taehyung cut in. “I wouldn’t be asking if I thought someone else would be better suited.”
“Please?” Zoe added, though Jungkook was sure she hadn’t followed most of the conversation, having been far too busy playing with Taehyung’s phone.
“I--” He wanted to say no, but couldn’t quite get the words out. “I guess. I’ll call in sick or something. But it’s only for today, and don’t you dare go around telling people about the residency at a children's hospital. That stays between us.”
Taehyung smirked, tilting his head to one side. “Why? Are you afraid it’ll ruin your reputation as a badass?” At Jungkook’s glare, he sighed. “I wonder what happened that made you think you aren’t allowed to have feelings or get attached to people. You’ll have to tell me some time.”
“Yeah, like I’d talk to you about anything...” Jungkook scoffed. “And don’t you need to get going?”
“Oh,” Taehyung blinked, searching his pockets for his phone before realizing it was in Zoe’s hands still. She handed it over without much fuss, hopping out of his lap to run around the table and ask Jungkook for his cell instead. “I’m late, shi--” He caught himself just in time, glancing at Zoe apologetically.
The six year old leaned up to yell-whisper in Jungkook’s ear, cupping one hand around her mouth. “He was gonna say shit.” She informed him gravely.
Taehyung looked pained as he stood quickly to leave. He kissed Zoe on the top of her head, which she ignored, and thanked Jungkook for doing this. “Her booster-seat is in the bag if you need to run errands, and I’ve got your number, so I’ll text you every hour or so to see how it’s going.” He called as he made his way out the door.
Zoe didn’t seem terribly bothered by his absence, turning to Jungkook with an excited gleam in her eyes.
“Do you know the finger-family song?” She asked, and Jungkook shook his head. “That’s okay. I’ll teach you.”
Two hours later, Jungkook felt like he was losing his mind. Zoe found a 10 hour version of the finger-family song that she insisted had to be played at all times, and Taehyung wasn’t joking when he said she tried to eat everything. She even bit him at one point, then claimed she didn’t mean to. It had been years since Jungkook read up on children’s psychology, but he was fairly sure it was a form of regression brought on by stress.
Not that knowing that helped his current situation.
“I’m going to make you into a beautiful princess,” Zoe said, chewing on the end of his comb. When Zoe suggested playing hairdresser, Jungkook thought it was a pretty good idea--at least it might distract her from biting things for a while. Now, as she pushed his comb covered in spit through his hair, he thought he might have made a mistake.
“I’ve always wanted to be a princess,” Jungkook chuckled. “Maybe we should turn off the music so you can focus--” He reached towards his phone that was still playing the finger-family song, but was stopped by Zoe’s glare. “...Or we can just leave it.”
A knocking began on the door, and Jungkook’s first thought was that it must be Taehyung back to pick up Zoe, but a moment later he heard someone punching in the keycode and the lock clicking.
“Hang on just a second,” Jungkook said to Zoe, who followed him quickly to the door. It opened just as he reached for the handle, and Jungkook felt like the world slowed down for just a moment.
Jessica stood there, purse in hand, looking the same way she had the other times she’d let herself into his apartment, save for the frown on her face.
“You didn’t change your lock.” She noted.
“I didn’t think you’d be back,” Jungkook shrugged. If he was honest, he’d hoped that she would be, and was somewhat in denial of the fact that he probably should change the code.
“You didn’t tell me you knew a princess,” Zoe accused, folding her arms in that way that only children did, as though she was doing her best impression of her parents.
Jessica opened and closed her mouth, looking nearly as lost as Jungkook felt.
“I came at a bad time,” She said finally, taking a step back. “I’ll just--”
“No!” It came out much louder and more desperate than Jungkook intended. “No, it’s fine. I’m babysitting, but... You can come in, if you want.”
Jessica had a million-and-one excuses for why she was there, but Jungkook wasn’t sure which one to believe because her story kept changing. First, she was there because she said you weren’t talking to her. Then, she said she was the one who wasn’t talking to you, but wanted to make sure you were alright. After that, it was because she thought she might have left her favorite blouse in his apartment, and then that she thought he might know why Yoongi hadn’t fired you yet.
Maybe it was all of the above, or maybe, by some miracle, she just wanted to see Jungkook. That’s what he hoped it was, anyway.
“Y/n keeps telling me you’re not so bad. That you’re just scared,” She said at one point. Zoe was still doing Jungkook’s hair as he sat on the floor, and Jessica sat on his couch watching.
“I thought you said the two of you aren’t talking,” Jungkook pointed out. He must have moved slightly as he said this, because Zoe hit the side of his head with her comb and told him to sit still.
“We’re not. She left a lot of voicemails last week.” Jessica said this quietly, as though she was embarrassed to admit it. “It’s stupid. We’ve been friends for years, and one stupid job does this to us? We’re better than this. I mean, sure we’ve fought before, but I don’t remember the last time we went this long without speaking. Usually Y/n tricks me into spending time with her and things just go back to normal... Both of us should have stayed far away from the Min corporation.”
Jungkook avoided Jessica’s eyes for a moment, looking down at his bitten nails as he tried to find the right words. “Maybe it’s selfish, but... I’m glad you didn’t. I wouldn’t have met you otherwise.”
“And Y/n? Are you glad she’s been put through all this?” Jungkook could only shrug. “How is she, anyway?” Jessica prompted after a moment.
“I dunno. We’re not really talking, either,” Jungkook admitted. He knew he’d said the wrong thing the moment it left his mouth, as Jessica’s eyes widened in horror.
“You mean she’s been dealing with all this crap by herself?” She balked. “She said you had her back! She said you were her friend, and you’re not talking to her?” Jungkook winced slightly, partially at Jessica’s words, and partially because Zoe had yanked on her comb particularly hard and it hurt. “How could you leave her to deal with Yoongi and Taehyung--”
“Who is Zoe’s dad!” Jungkook cut in quickly. No kid needed to hear strangers talking bad about their parent.
“Oh,” Jessica said, taken aback. “They don’t look alike. Also, why haven’t I heard about this before?”
Jungkook nodded. “It’s surprising, right?” Whatever Jessica would have said next was cut off by Jungkook’s phone ringing. He was about to simply silence it when he saw that it was from Yoongi. “Sorry, just a second...” Jungkook muttered as he answered.
“I know you’re sick, but I need you to come in for an hour,” Yoongi said, not bothering with any other greeting. “There’s been a mixup in marketing and no one here knows how to fix it.”
“I really can’t--” Jungkook started.
“You’re really going to have to anyway,” Yoongi cut in. “I’m sorry to ask you to come in when you’re sick, but this has to be taken care of. I’ll pay you double time, and you’ll be done before lunch.”
“Yoongi, I just told you--” Jungkook tried again.
Zoe’s eyes lit up. “Uncle Yoongi?”
“I’ll see you in an hour, then.” Yoongi hung up after that, and Jungkook glared at his dark phone screen. He supposed he could just not show up, but he suspected that Yoongi wouldn’t personally call unless it was important.
His eyes went to Zoe, who was currently bumping out the bag Taehyung had brought with them. Despite what Taehyung said, he had not texted yet, so Jungkook still didn’t have his number.
“I have to go to the office for an hour...” Jungkook started, but his voice trailed off as Zoe raised her booster-seat into the air.
“We’re gonna see Uncle Yoongi!” She cheered.
Jungkook could have sworn he hadn’t taken his eyes off of Zoe even once since they arrived on the tenth floor, and yet... She was gone. He sat her in a chair next to his at his desk and told her to sit tight for just a minute while he found out what was happening, while watching her out of the corner of his eye.
Of course that was a bad idea, he thought in hindsight. No six year old could sit still for any amount of time, it wasn’t reasonable for him to have expected it from Zoe.
His first thought was to check under his desk--she liked hide-and-go-seek, so it seemed like a good hunch. But once he was on all fours, he realized how many desks were in the office--she could literally be anywhere.
“Oh god,” He muttered, starting to panic.
“Did you lose a contact or what?” Jimin’s voice interrupted, amusement clear in his tone.
“Worse. So much worse,” Jungkook muttered. Maybe Jessica could help. She’d come along with them to the office saying she needed to straighten things out with you, and that if she didn’t now she might chicken out.
“Your phone, then?” Jimin guessed.
Jungkook shook his head distractedly. He had tried to tell Taehyung he wasn’t a babysitter, but he really should have tried harder. “Worse.”
“What’s worse than losing your phone?” The other man scoffed as Jungkook stood.
“A child. Misplacing a child is much, much worse.”
As much as Jungkook didn’t want to explain the situation to Yoongi, he didn’t see that he had any choice--it was better for him to be in trouble than for Zoe to potentially get hurt. Most people had already left for lunch, but within ten minutes the few people who were left were all searching for the six year old.
“You have a lot of explaining to do once we find my niece,” Yoongi warned as he brushed past. Jungkook nodded, but he still felt like he wasn’t the only one who owed people an explanation.
“Found her!” Jimin called a moment later, sticking his head out of the break room.
By the time Jungkook made it to the room, Yoongi was already leading Zoe to his office and saying that he would call Taehyung. Jessica was hovering near the door, peaking in as though she didn’t want the people inside to see her.
Jimin was laughing in a sort of relieved way, and over the commotion Jungkook heard you say, “I have so many questions.”
Taehyung seemed nearly at his wits end as he paced back and forth in Yoongi’s office for an hour. Zoe had quickly gotten bored and said she wanted to play with you, because apparently you were much more fun than Yoongi was. She then “helped” you reorganize papers as Jessica filled you in on what had happened.
Taehyung ended up taking Zoe home, and Jessica eventually admitted that she had a lot left to do that day and headed out as well.
This all left Jungkook quite unsure of what he should do. He didn’t avoid you the rest of the day like he had been, but didn’t go out of his way to talk to you, either. He wasn’t sure what to say, or how to even start a conversation. But what Jessica said you’d said about him made him think that maybe he should at least try.
It was an accident that night when the two of you left at the same time, taking the same elevator down to the parking level. He didn’t say anything until you started walking the opposite direction as him towards your car.
“Why did you lie to Jessica?” Jungkook asked, although it wasn’t anything like what he had prepared in his mind.
“What?” You turned back to look at him, a slight crease in your brow.
“You must have told her some pretty great things about me for her to show up today,” Jungkook clarified. “So why’d you lie?”
“I didn’t,” You said without hesitation. “Everything I’ve said to Jessica about you was true.” When Jungkook scoffed, you frowned and took a step towards him. “Jungkook, you may not be ready to accept it yet, but you’re not a bad person. You’ve been a great friend to me, despite everything.”
Jungkook shook his head, feeling slightly incredulous. “I’ve been a complete ass all week! I’ve gone out of my way to ignore you, I--”
You shrugged. “You’re mad, I get it. But I’ve been hoping that when you cool off, we can talk about it and go back to being friends.”
He was speechless for a moment, then he remembered what Jess had said earlier. “You don’t give up on people, do you?”
“No, not easily, anyway,” You agreed. “And I haven’t given up on you, yet.” Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh slightly as he shook his head. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Jungkook,” You said with a small smile, giving him a wave. “We’re having lunch together whether you like it or not!”
A/N OMG I’m back! Thanks for sticking around! Let me know what you think, and how you feel about it! I thought it’d be fun to give you guys a glimpse into Jungkook’s mind while also explaining how Zoe got to the tenth floor in the last part. Let me know if you’d like to see more similar like this, or if you’d rather just stick with Reader and Yoongi. <3 <3 <3

Yoongi wasn’t in his office on Tuesday morning when you walked in. It wasn’t like him to be late; more often than not, he had already been there for several hours before anyone else even stepped foot into the building. He hadn’t said anything the previous day that he wasn’t coming in, and you turned away from his dark office to find Namjoon.
“Have you heard from Yoongi this morning?” You asked, and Namjoon looked up from his computer with a slight frown. “He’s not here, should we be worried?”
“He didn’t tell you?” Namjoon asked, tilting his head to the side. “It’s the anniversary of his mothers death. He’ll be back in tomorrow.” He went back to whatever he was typing, his attention hardly ever leaving the computer screen.
“Oh.” Was all you could think of to say. He hadn’t said anything to you, but then again, why would he? You still had a job to do whether he was there or not. So you couldn’t quite figure out why you felt the slightest bit hurt by it. Perhaps you could argue that it was rude of him not to say anything to you, but even that sounded petty. He was the CEO, he didn’t owe and explanation to anyone, save maybe for Namjoon who was head of human resources and actually needed to know.
You also felt a strange sadness for Yoongi, the thought of him visiting his mothers grave, perhaps by himself. Or maybe he had gone with his family, that seemed like a much better option in your mind. There was such fondness in his voice the few times he had mentioned her, it was clear she meant a lot to him, and you hoped that he was surrounded by supportive people on a day like this.
You wondered back to your desk with your mind a million miles away. Should you say something to him tomorrow? That you were sorry or something along those lines, or would that simply make him feel worse? That might depend on how long ago it had happened, which you didn’t have the fainest clue. You realized once again how very little you knew about him, and also how much you wanted to change that–not that you should.
It didn’t help that things were still slightly awkward around him, with you constantly trying to remind yourself that he was your boss and that was all he ever should be, and him switching between angry-screaming-CEO-Yoongi and odd-mostly-calm-Yoong. You almost preferred it when he was permanently angry, at least then you knew what to expect from him.
Then again, this other side of Yoongi was (while quite strange) sweet in a way, and almost seemed sane. You could actually have a conversation with him, joke with him even, and he certainly smiled more (though still not as often as normal people). But along with the good came the bad, and it was with out a doubt very bad that the more you got to know him (or tried to), the more you wanted to keep getting to know him–which wasn’t good for keeping the whole boss-employee boundary in tact.
You worked in a bit of a haze the rest of the day. It felt so strange to be there without him, and even Jimin didn’t bother to make constant jabs at you when you passed by his desk. Hoseok came by at one point to inform you that you had been staring at your blank computer screen for a solid ten minutes and that Seokjin was worried. That was when you knew you needed to think about something else. Taehyung wasn’t there, but that could have been for any number of reasons–including that he may have finally gotten bored like Yoongi predicted. Whatever the reason, you were also grateful not to have him there complicating things.
You stood from your desk without much thought, walking back to Yoongi’s empty office absently. You flicked on the light and looked around the mess that it always was. You had no idea how he got anything done in such a wreck, papers were always on the floor surrounding his desk, and the desk itself was so piled up it was almost comical. There was broken glass in one corner, and the filing cabinet in the other wouldn’t close.
You sighed as you made your way into the office–you had finished everything that needed to be done that day, checked and responded to emails, returned calls and reviewed files. So you set about picking up the space, sorting papers and re-stacking them properly. Over the last week and a half, you had learned where and how Yoongi liked things--he just wasn’t good at putting them back where they belonged.
You opened the curtains that blocked off the rather incredible view of the city that Yoongi would have from his office if he ever bothered to move the fabric out of the way. It made the whole space feel better immediately, and you wondered how much more it would help if you opened a window–but you would save that for another day.
Among the papers on his desk, you found an expired credit card, a pair of glasses with one of the lenses missing, and an invitation for a party that happened two months ago. You also found a sticky note that said “call dad” buried under an old spreadsheet. You had no idea if he actually had, so you stuck it next to the many other yellow squares of paper that covered the side of his computer screen.
“What are you doing?” A familiar voice said from the door, and in your haste to stand up, you bumped your head on the underside of Yoongi’s desk where you had been gathering papers from.
“Do you really have no one else to bother?” You sighed as you stood, rubbing where your head had collided with the desk as you gave Jungkook a look.
“I could bother plenty of people, but you’re the most fun.” He grinned at you, stepping further into the office. “Almost everyone else has left for the day. Are you going to stay here by yourself or what?”
You blinked at him. Was it really that late already? You looked at the clock that sat on Yoongi’s desk, something you didn’t know he even had because it had been previously covered in so many sticky notes. Jungkook wasn’t lying though, it was six o’clock in the evening and most people would be going home about now, some even earlier. “I didn’t realize what time it was.” You said more to yourself than anything else.
“Time flies when you’re having fun, right?” Jungkook snorted, picking up a paperweight from Yoongi’s desk and inspecting it. “What is this, anyway?” He held it up and your shrugged.
“How should I know?”
Jungkook was about to reply when you heard voices from not far off, and they didn’t sound happy. You recognized one as Taehyung’s, and it took you a second to figure out who the second person was. You and Jungkook exchanged a look, and suddenly he had grabbed your hand, pulling you in the opposite direction of the exit and to the tiny closet that Yoongi’s office had in the far right-hand corner. You had no idea what it was for, had never even looked in it, and honestly didn’t want to. If Yoongi was that messy in his office, what must his storage space look like?
“What the hell?” You started, but he held a finger up to his lips as he opened the door, stepping inside the cramped space and ushering you to follow. You hesitated--following Jungkook into a small space seemed the dumbest thing you could possibly do, not to mention it was pointless--before you heard the tail end of something Yoongi had just said to Taehyung. It was rude, and a little scary. Maybe you didn’t want to talk to him right then.
“Don’t you want to know what they’re arguing about?” Jungkook asked quietly, and you couldn’t believe that the answer was yes, you were horribly curious. There wasn’t much time to think about it, so you scooted in next to Jungkook, trying to stay as far away from him as possible; which wasn’t easy considering the closet itself was only about two and a half feet wide, and shelves took up a great deal of it. How Jungkook managed to close the door was a wonder, but it wasn’t a moment too soon. You heard Taehyung and Yoongi walk into the office, and then the creak of Yoongi’s desk chair as someone sat down.
“Fuck off. I don’t know what kind of messed up shit you’re trying to pull, but in case you haven’t noticed, today isn’t a good one to bother me.” Yoongi sounded angry, which you had heard before, but somehow it sounded more genuine this time, like he really was ready to punch Taehyung.
“Cut the crap, Yoongi. You know why I’m here, and you know what? I don’t give a fuck if you’re in a shit mood. That’s no excuse.” Taehyung sounded pissed, which was completely unlike him. He always seemed to stay calm, level-headed and neutral. “It’s only once a year. One day out of a year isn’t too much to ask.
There was a pause. “Yes. It is.” Yoongi said finally. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I didn’t come here to talk to you, Taehyung--”
“Of course you didn’t.” Taehyung sneered. “You came here hoping to run into a very particular person, probably to threaten her job, judging by your current mood. You always did replace them if they were a little too nice. Or perhaps you were hoping she’d get your mind off things some other way, like she did the other night. I’m assuming that’s why you used her and then left her in the middle of nowhere Thursday night, anyway.” At his words, you felt your cheeks start to burn, and could practically feel Jungkook’s eyes turning to you in the dark. You should have just made your presence known earlier, it was childish and stupid to hide in a closet when you hadn’t even done anything wrong. You didn’t want to know that Taehyung had jumped to conclusions, and definitely didn’t want Jungkook to hear those conclusions. What if word spread? It wasn’t even true, but it could end your career. “Too bad she already left--though not without cleaning your office, I see.”
“The fuck are you even talking about?” Yoongi’s voice was so low that you almost couldn’t hear it through the door. Regret gnawed at you, you never should have called Taehyung that night. All you wanted was a friend to drive you home, you hadn’t thought about the consequences of him working with Yoongi until later. “Damn it Taehyung.” You thought bitterly. “Why’d you have to bring that up?”
“I don’t think I was clear enough before. You need to stay the fuck away from her.” Taehyung warned. “She deserves a hell of a lot better than you.”
“I’m sorry, who are we talking about again?” Yoongi had switched from angry to mildly annoyed, but you could hear the strain in his voice even from behind a door. “Oh, you must mean my secretary!” You heard him snap his fingers, but you could tell by his voice that he knew exactly who Taehyung was referring to.
“I mean it, Yoongi. If you make her cry again like you did the other night--” Taehyung was cut off by Yoongi, however.
“And what would you know about that?”
Damn it damn it damn it, you couldn’t believe Taehyung was doing this to you. Was he trying to ruin things? Did he want Yoongi to hate you, for your life to be made even harder than it was already?
“Good. So you know that that while you were trying to play the nice guy, she was with me, and she enjoyed every fucking second of it. Are you really going to tell me that you’d have done something different, given the opportunity?”
The pause that followed was too long. So much for Taehyung being a friend. You wanted to leave, to run out the door and never look back, send in your resignation letter and never see anyone from the tenth floor again. But you didn’t think you could handle the embarrassment of walking out of Yoongi’s closet with Jungkook, so you stayed where you were.
And so much for Yoongi being a decent guy underneath his persona. He was purposefully leading Taehyung to believe that you’d slept with him, and even if it had been true, it wasn’t something you’d want him telling just anyone--and certainly not bragging about it to people he hated.
You didn’t even notice the tears that had pooled in your eyes at first, but suddenly they were streaming down your face. They were mostly due to embarrassment, but also due to anger--at Yoongi, at Taehyung, yourself for thinking that you knew either of them at all, and at Jungkook for somehow convincing you to step into this stupid closet with him.
“I wouldn’t have left her out in the damn street without a car.” Taehyung snapped finally.
“You like acting as though you’re so much better than me.” Yoongi sighed. “But we both know that at the end of the day, the girl you liked picked me without hesitation. That’s gotta say something about you, don’t you think?” Yoongi was trying to make Taehyung mad, and you suspected that it was working. “And I assure you, you weren’t anywhere in her mind when she unbuttoned her shirt, or reached for my belt...”
“Fuck. Even I’m not this bad.” Jungkook whispered, and you reached up to clamp a hand over his mouth. You thought you might actually have a heart attack if you were caught like this with him.
Yoongi’s words seemed to be the last straw for Taehyung, as you heard a crash from the other side of the door. Shortly after, you heard what you thought might have been a punch, and then some violent swearing, and another crash. Your hand went up to your mouth slowly to cover it.
“They must really like you.” Jungkook hissed, pulling your hand away from his own mouth.
“This has nothing to do with me.” You replied just as quietly. “Neither of them would get this bent out of shape over someone they just met. They were looking for a reason to tear each other down, and I just happened to get caught in the middle.” You hadn’t really intended to tell Jungkook of all people this, but the words slipped past your mouth without even realizing. You weren’t sure how you were suddenly so sure of this, but there was no doubt in your mind--you were nothing to either of them but a way to hurt the other.
“Get the fuck out of my office before I call the fucking police.” You heard Yoongi say, sounding out of breath.
“I’ll tell dad you said hi, asshole.” Taehyung replied, anger clear in his voice.
“You can tell dad to get hit by a bus.” Yoongi seethed. Taehyung slammed the office door as he left.
A/N Yep, they’re brothers! :D Kind of! You’ll see! Do you trust Taehyung, or Yoongi, or neither? Are they both assholes you hate? Is Jungkook growing on you, or is he still just a douche-canoe that might have just dragged Reader into a closet bc he wanted to be in a small space with her? Haha, thank you for reading, and as always, let me know your thoughts and feelings! <3 <3 <3
