Anyone remember me from back when I was writing Sukko stuff in the LWA fandom back in 2018, long before this tumblr account existed? This pairing got me back into writing I loved it so much, and while I don’t necessarily look back at those fics as an example of amazing writing, I’m still really happy to have contributed them to the relatively small fandom, and an even smaller pairing.
I mentioned in my last post that it was meant to be line-less, but I could quite grasp that yet. Well, now I can! Sorta. Really helped to think of the individual parts as pieces of construction paper I was cutting out and stacking, rather than paint or stuff like that. Digital layers confuse me… So if your way of thinking isn’t working, change it to something dumber, and if it works, it wasn’t dumb!
I made a version with Akko having an eye open, but was never happy enough with the eye, and changed it to both eyes closed. It’s here if ya wanna see it, though.
Someone recently told me in a comment on one of my fics that they liked my rambling author’s notes that broke down my creative process, and that it made writing seem much more manageable, so I thought maybe I’d do that for a bit here, too.
Here was basically the first two hours of me drawing. I used references from the anime and game, both for size and shape, as well as color. Then I just started blocking things out, bit by bit until I was happy with the shapes. Once I had the basics, I would add or remove from them to get them a bit more detailed, which you can sorta see with Akko’s hair.
From there, I could start adding the shading to help add depth, and spent a good chunk of time just doing that. Then I did the faces. Then I got stuck figuring out the rest of the shading and hated everything and myself for a while, as is tradition among artists, figured out what I wanted, and kept on going.
Finally I just stole borrowed a background image from the show itself and shoved it behind my own drawing and that is the long winded way of showing you my process. Please hang it on the fridge.
