Icarus held out his hand, almost PLEADING for him to take it.
"Let me protect you,"
The smaller miqo'te in front of him was shaken in fear. He noticed the signs for awhile now, but he could have never guessed it would ever lead to something like this.
He couldn't even believe whether the miqo'te in front of him was his lover or not.
"Icarus...I...I can't..." Su violently shook his head.
"This isn't right. This isn't you!"
He could feel the teardrops pooling in his eyes. Who was this man, why couldn't he accept him still, when its so painfully obvious its his lover.
"I'm sorry but, I can't do this. I can't. Its...its not right..."
He knew Icarus would protect him. He knew Icarus would never betray his trust. He knew, no matter what, Icarus would never hurt him.
But he didn't know what was Icarus's plan. He didn't know what's going on. He didn't know what will happen.
All he knows is that he's afraid. All he knows is that this all feels wrong. All he knows...
Is that he should run.
------
Su took one step back, frightened.
For an unknown reason.
He saw the hurt in Icarus's eyes at his simple action. It was painful to see.
But even more painful to the person in front of him.
Icarus feared this would happen, but he knew it was inevitable. His heart sank into the abyss. His own lover was afraid of him. His own lover unsure or not whether to trust him.
What good it was to be a hero at this point ?
"I told you he's a liability. He's only going to be an emotional burden on you if you don't deal with it,"
A male Hyur, donned in a black Warrior armor spoke. It seems he was beginning to get annoyed at the miqo'tes in front of him.
Icarus snapped his head back, and glared fiercely at the Hyur; his eyes glowing bright purple. If one cared to stare, his eyes seemed to emit smoke.
He let out a hiss and a rumbling growl. Nobody touches his lover. Nobody disrespects him by calling him 'It'.
If he had his way he would strangle the Hyur and beat him to the ground until he couldn't speak.
But he was right.
There was a much bigger situation of importance, and he only came here as a quick pit stop before leaving. Hoping, he could possibly save at least one more life before leaving.
Hoping, he could finally protect a person who he loved.
He returned his gaze to Su. His expressions softening once more. He knew he couldn't make him join them. He knew this journey would even be too dangerous for him.
But if he could only...
"Icarus...please..."
A shaken, cracked voice. Tears.
"I'm begging you...please don't do this,"
Su choked on a sob.
The taller miqo'te could only sigh in sadness. He never did physically hurt him, yet, it somehow still felt just as painful.
"I'm...sorry, Su. I have no other choice. For the sake of humanity, this is the only way to save everyone. The only way...to save you."
He looked at his lover one last time. It will be lord knows how long until he returns to this realm. He wants to remember, to memorise every bit of his lover before he leaves.
His face, his scent, his voice. The way his ears twitch, the way his eyes glow under the sun.
The way he...smiles...
Ah, the one luxury he doesn't deserve to see before his departure. As his punishment should be, for shattering his lover's heart.
He held out his hand once more, no longer as an offer; but to reach out.
He reached out and cupped Su’s face; causing the latter to flinch slightly, but he never backed away.
--------
The touch of his palm felt warm. Tender.
Sad.
Icarus stroked his thumb against Su's cheek, wiping away what tears were left there.
He caused this.
And he could never forgive himself for it.
-------
He gently pressed his forehead against his lover's. He wanted to feel this. He needed to remember this.
He took Su's hands, firmly gripping the smaller calloused hands into his own.
"I promise...no matter how far I am, no matter where I'll be. I will always be there to protect you. By my own life and blood, I promise you."
He could feel the smaller miqo'te shuddering from his sobs. All he could do was gently stroke the other's hands; a poor attempt to calm the other miqo'te.
"Icarus, we have to hurry."
The Hyur man spoke once more. Sternly.
A bright purple portal manifested behind the mysterious warriors donned in black. One by one, they entered; leaving Icarus as the last man behind.
"I'll come back to you. I promise."
He pulled Su for one last kiss. Their lips brushed so gently in sorrow, yearning, reluctant to let the other go.
But he had to.
With one last look back, he took what he still could of his lover. Before finally stepping in the portal and joining the others.
The portal closed. Leaving nothing in its disappearance.
Su stood there. Frozen.
Alone.
He felt his legs giving out, his knees becoming too weak to help him stand.
He sank to the floor.
A sob croaked from his throat.
The sob...
Turned into wailing.

Author’s Note : I’ve always had this scene playing in my mind waaay before ShB was announced. And here I finally wrote it.
Some phone doodles of Icarus and Su again. I was thinking abt that cheesy retro fashion style, and Icarus would DEF take any chance he can to put on a skirt. Idk why I labelled it as Valentione's Day Glam. It gave me that vibe x'D
