Y'all thought I'd let a little virus ruin MY graduation?
I bought a $30 build a bear Vulpix today so for the rest of the week I will be living off of ramen and whatever I happen to have in my freezer.
UB’s student conduct process is separate from legal proceedings that take place off campus and could lead to a range of sanctions.
UB’s decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings was based on the review of Buffalo Police interviews with several students believed to have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the death of Serafin-Bazan at the Sigma Pi fraternity house off campus. In January of this year, Sigma Pi’s national charter was revoked by its national parent organization and it is no longer a recognized fraternity at UB.

Even if released today this video seems to relate to an incident happening Friday, April 12th this year, when a University at Buffalo freshman dies after a suspected hazing incident.
Introducing NYPA’s Interns
Welcome to NYPA’s 2018 Summer Intern blog series. Each week, we’ll be featuring several interns working across NYPA’s various sites and departments. Read on to learn more about our interns and why they chose to work at NYPA!
Many developmental interns have taken full-time positions at NYPA. NYPA was named one of America’s Best Mid-Size Employers by Forbes in 2018. To search openings, visit nypa.gov/careers.
Thomas Jackson is an Instrumentation and Controls Engineering Intern at NYPA’s Niagara Power Project. He is from East Amherst, NY and is studying Electrical Engineering at SUNY Oswego. He said his favorite classes there have been Power Systems because it is “intriguing to learn all the intricacies that go into power generation” and Microprocessors because he thinks “microprocessors have such a wide range of applications in almost every field of engineering, and it is necessary to have an understanding of how they work to be successful.” Regarding the energy industry, he is most interested in renewable energy and he said he enjoys working at NYPA because “the amount of employees with different backgrounds ensures that there is always someone that [he] can learn from, or an expert to ask questions.” In five years, he hopes to be working in the energy industry as a controls or electrical engineer and have a good understanding of his field.
Caitlin McMahon is an Electrical Engineering Intern at NYPA’s St. Lawrence site. She is from Massena, NY and is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Math from Union College. She said that her favorite courses have been Embedded Microcontroller because it allowed students to apply basic engineering knowledge with coding skills and Circuits & Systems because she loves math. Regarding the energy industry, she is most interested in hydroelectricity because she grew up so close to NYPA’s St. Lawrence plant, but never fully understood how it worked until she started working there! Caitlin also explained that she enjoys working at NYPA because she has been exposed to so many things that she wouldn't have in the classroom and believes it is “a great place to learn hands on about the energy industry.” In five years, she hopes to apply her interests in math, engineering, and electricity in the industry and may pursue a master’s degree.
Joseph Distefano is a Mechanical Engineering Intern at NYPA’s Niagara Power Project. He is from Rochester, NY and is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY University at Buffalo. He said his favorite classes there are his Applied Mathematics courses because of its real world application and data analysis, and explained that he finds power engineering the most interesting aspect of the energy industry because so many pieces must come together to produce power and it relates to a little bit of everything he’s learned in school. Joseph also said that he enjoys working at NYPA because of the environment, which is one where he can “learn something new every day” and has fantastic people. In five years, he hopes to be working for a bio-mechanical engineering company.

Noah Barnard is a Technical Library Intern at NYPA’s Niagara Office. He is from Canandaigua, NY and is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Information Systems from Niagara University. He said he enjoys his Cyber Security courses because his “interests and collegiate focuses are towards digital forensics.” He likes the energy industry because it is helpful in today’s world, and described how it is “efficient, fun, and plays a massive role in keeping our world running to the standards of the ever growing human race.” Noah also said “working at NYPA is an experience like no other” because the people and environment are unbeatable and NYPA works hard to provide reliable energy for mass consumption. In five years, he hopes to be using his degrees in Computer Science and Digital Forensics to their full potential, hopefully at NYPA.
Korey Beasley is an Electrical Engineering Intern at NYPA’s Niagara site. He is from Rochester, NY and is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering from SUNY University at Buffalo. He said his favorite classes there have been his microelectronics labs because he enjoys seeing the calculations he solves “come to life in order to achieve design goals,” and he finds power engineering the most interesting part of the energy industry for the same reason. Korey also explained that his favorite part of working at NYPA is “the vast amount of knowledge that each employee has here,” and that every time he has had a question, it seems like the person next to him knows the answer or knows who to ask. In five years, he hopes to have a career he loves and to be pursuing his Professional Engineering license.
Jacob Massack is currently an Environmental Health and Safety Intern at NYPA’s Niagara Office. He is from Oakmont, PA and pursuing a degree in Safety Management from Slippery Rock University. He said his favorite classes are his Incident Investigation classes because they are all based off real events, and is most interested the energy industry because it takes a sustainable resource such as water and uses it to provide a much needed service to the community. Jacob also said that he enjoys being an intern at NYPA because “the spectrum of work being done here is vast” which allows him to experience a lot more than he would elsewhere. In five years, Jacob hopes to be working as an environmental health and safety manager.
