I always have to think about which English common name to use when talking about plants and animals, and sometimes the choice isn’t that easy. But this time I have my favourite: wild rosemary. The scent of the plant, not just the flowers, is very strong and pleasant, very much like rosemary. The scent comes from essential oils such as ledol, palustrol and myrcene, and even though it is reminiscent of actual rosemary the two are not related, and wild rosemary is also poisonous. It can be found in peaty and mossy areas, typically in bogs and forested lake shores.
