More old stuff!
This is... Hmmm. Obviously a fight happened. Final fight. And they're going home. This is me thinking about what Lulu is willing to surrender for the people she (or he I guess?) loves.
As told, Lulu and Dreifin did not get along at first. Lulu got in trouble and Dreifin was her warden and executioner. Dreifin has a lot of baggage, past that came to haunt him while he was supervising her. Dreifin's boss cares about him but has to keep up appearances, he can't fight Dreifin's battles. Besides, Dreifin is strong enough to win.
They don't get along but Lulu has been helping Dreifin, comforting him in a way that is not destructive to the boy. Dreifin's boss thought Lulu could help so he offered her her freedom as long as she kept Dreifin company. Because she was offered the get out of jail card she insisted to tag along Dreifin's suicide mission, something she wouldn't have done if the get out of jail card wasn't on the table. On the journey they bonded and became friends.
After learning about and loving Dreifin, she wanted him to know that their bond is genuine. And... Well. She does it the only way she knows how: by putting something of value to her on the line. This time it's her chance at freedom.
She is saying, "This is something of value to me. It's valuable enough that I risked my life to get it. And you're more valuable than this, that's why I'm risking it for you."
Dreifin called her an idiot because, well, she didn't have to say that. She's already special to him. She told him to value his time alive and savor every happiness, to look forward to future happiness and those small moments of happiness makes the bad times worth it no matter what. He's following her advice. He's used to transactional relationships. He's going to enjoy the memories of their time together no matter what happens next. But he also got what she's telling him and he's happy to finally have a friend.
