Accessing File: Continent of Anola written by Gabriel Ames
Anola, our home. To the uneducated eye, Anola probably looks like a giant Island in the middle of the ocean, but that could not be farther from the truth. Our entire planet is nothing BUT ocean, and Anola is the supercontinent on which we all live.
To the North lies the Great Human Empire. By far the largest and most numerous of all the powers on Anola, the Empire is home to over 5 BILLION people, all of them pure blooded humans. Ruled by their Emperor, a monarchical based system, the Empire fields the most “modern” military in the world. Their troops march into battle with armored vehicles and battle mechs, carrying powerful projectile and laser based weaponry. While the main army is fully professional, the border towns that are not part of the massive “City Complexes” use “Border Militia” to protect themselves from threats, though anyone foolish enough to wage a war against the Empire will not last long. Most if not all people living in the Empire, believe Humanity to be superior to all other living creatures on the continent, this has created a large rift between the other powers of the world, especially with their South-Western Neighbor, Animalia.
(See: Great Human Empire for more.)
Animalia, the power to the West and full of intelligent Anthropomorphic animals is what I would call a Class-Based Monarchy. There is indeed a powerful ruler in King Kharazmeahl the Alchemist. Pure hearted and strong he and his song Blaze Fierheart are technically the rulers of Animalia, but they are some of the last of their Draconic kind and the country is also ruled by its class system of lower, middle, and upper class citizens. Depending on what animal you are, determines what your place in society is. As one would expect, the upper class have the least amount of representatives but they are the most powerful below the monarch, which has led to many clashes between the weak and strong. Kharazmeahl has held the country together for over 150 years, but with his son coming to age, I fear that the upper class will not tolerate another long living dragon taking what should be an elected position. Their “Army” if one could call it that, is formed from the upper class citizens as they feel the lower classes are “unworthy” of participating in the glory of battle. Armed with a variety of weapons from swords to bolt action rifles, the Animalian military is...semi modern, but they have not seen a conflict for over 1,000 years. One wonders if they truly are capable of fighting when they can barely control their own country.
To the South lies my birthplace, the Lands of Arcana. The Magi of Arcana practices the Magical Arts, and are divided into six great families of magic. Pyromancy, Biomancy, Weathermancy, Beastmancy, Lumimancy, and Necromancy. While all six “tribes” have their own representatives(Prime Magi), usually the most powerful among them, all the Prime Magi answer to someone even greater: The Grand Magi located in the capitol city Ventes Magia, right in the middle of their land. Depending on what tribe your born into, determines your “fate” as it were, and also determines what kind of person you become. For example: Pyromancers are brash, hotheaded and prideful. The Lands of the Magi have always been at peace, with the occasional border clash, but all the families are united and I fear for their safety if war ever comes.
Far to the East, in the grand desert exist the people of Cenabrum. Their lands surrounding by a massive energy shield to protect them from the desert’s harsh winds the people of Cenabrum are the powerful Psionics that live in our world. Living in a Meritocracy based society, the psionics of Cenabrum have given the world amazing technology from energy shields to speed harvesters. Advances in medicine and bionics as well have made the people of Cenabrum extremely long living, almost to the point one might wonder if they are more machine than human at this point. Yet in their society, one most contribute to gain a place. The greater the contribution, the greater the place in society, those who fail to contribute are essentially lower class “slaves” with rights. A corrupt system to be sure where the lower class will never escape, but the logic focused people of this land strive for the greatness of their society, weakness must be removed. They believe fighting is pointless and use robotic based drones and soldiers to protect themselves, though whispers of more advanced technological creations escape the energy pylons and are carried on the desert winds.
You would think, on a planet where there was only one massive landmass on which all life thrived, that peace would be the goal of everyone on it…oh how the unknowing are so naive. Anola is anything but peaceful. True, all of the major powers are at peace within their own borders but suspicion is common on all sides and that leads to distrust, and after distrust comes paranoia. After that…well…many hope it never gets to that point. However for those who are reading this and don’t know anything about our home, let me start from the beginning.
(See Image 2)
In the beginning there existed six powerful spirits, with a final seventh Great Spirit above them, serving as their mentor and father. Together, these seven spirits crafted Anola bringing life and creation to an otherwise barren and oceanic world. Along with said life, they also brought the powers of magic to the growing continent and with this creation of new life came the rise of the spirits as gods.
Yet, the gods were petty and began to argue among themselves as to who was the mightiest, forgetting that their mentor the Great Spirit was superior to all of them in every way. In the end, their pettiness and jealousy erupted into a massive cataclysm that nearly ripped the entire planet itself apart in their war. There was no victor, only destruction as the once proud continent was torn asunder and rendered lifeless by the mere children that considered themselves gods. Angered beyond belief, the Great Spirit struck them all in their weakest moments and scattered them amongst the destroyed land as he himself rebuilt it into the great super continent that we know today. Time passed and memory of the gods faded, their power waning, each took shelter in the forms of animals and objects to conserve their dwindling power.
However soon they all became so weak that without some kind of living host, it seemed they would lay dormant forever. One would hope, that beings with such power and such uncontrollable feelings would remain asleep forever…but fate has a way of denying us the future that we want.
