Dumb Women - SuperBat - Oneshot Wednesday - Drabble
It’s oneshot wednesday and the oneshot I’ve been working on isn’t done yet. It’s almost 7000 words long now and it isn’t even half way over. I’m actually thinking about making it into a short story with chapters, but anyway
because my oneshot isn’t ready, I decided to post a little drabble thing that I wrote a really long time ago, so here it is. The nostalgia is strong with this one, tbh.
Title: Dumb Women
Ship: SuperBat (pre-slash)
Length: 583 words
Rating: General
Warning: I wrote this a long time ago, so it is not as good as my usual stuff, for those of you who have read my work before. Still, it’s kind of cute, and I might rewrite it later to make it a legit oneshot. I haven’t decided yet.
Summary:
Lois isn’t as smart as Bruce thought she was.
Story:
Batman and Superman were standing on a rooftop in Gotham. They did this somewhat often. Clark was one of few people Bruce would actually call friend and Clark enjoyed his company, even when they didn't talk much or at all, so they met at least once a month to just be together for awhile before they had to go back to saving lives and maintaining their secret identities.
This time, the two had been pretty silent. There was a greeting, of course, but after that they stopped talking. They simply enjoyed being around each other. Clark secretly liked to listen to Bruce's steady heartbeat, and Bruce secretly liked that he felt safe around the Kryptonian, like he wasn't going to be attacked at any second. He didn't have to be so alert around Clark, because Clark's enhanced senses would pick up anything unusual before it arrived.
After a good 30 minutes of silence, Clark spoke up. He sounded tense, sad almost, and Bruce immediately paid attention. "Lois and I broke up." Bruce knew who he was talking about, and now he understood why he had sounded upset. Lois Lane was Clark Kent's long time girlfriend and a co-worker. They'd been together for years, and everyone kind of assumed they'd get married one day. Before Bruce could speak, Clark continued.
"Actually," he said, "Lois left me. For someone else."
"Huh." That's all Bruce could think to respond with.
"'Huh'? That's all you got?" Clark sounded more upset about Bruce's lack of response than he did about Lois.
"I'm sorry, Clark. I'm just kind of processing this. Lois, the Lois Lane, who you've been with for the last several years, left you?" Clark nodded, jaw tense. "For someone else?" Another nod. "You're sure? How do you know?"
"Because she told me, Bruce. She said she met someone and they really hit it off and she wants to pursue a relationship with them. Her stuff was packed and out of my apartment the next morning."
"Huh."
Clark didn't bother commenting on Bruce's response. He just sighed and stared down at the roof they were standing on. "I'm not even upset that she left me. To be honest, I was trying to find a way to break up with her. The emotions weren't there anymore, you know? It isn't that she left that hurts. It's who she left me for."
"Who'd she leave you for?"
Clark worked his jaw, taking a moment to answer. "Lex Luther."
Bruce's eyebrows rose into his hairline. "She left you for him?"
Clark nodded and sighed. His shoulders slumped.
"She's not as smart as I thought she was."
Clark's head jerked over to look at him. "Why do you say that? She doesn't know what he does behind closed doors. No civilians do."
Bruce shrugged. "I just thought she had better taste in men."
Snorting, Clark gave him a dubious look. "Dating me meant she had good taste in men?"
"It meant she had the best taste in men."
Clark spluttered, searching for an answer, but Bruce's earpiece beeped before he could come up with one. After a quick conversation with Robin, Bruce sighed and turned back to Clark. "The Joker escaped his padded cell. I have to go round him up."
Batman turned away from Superman and walked over to the edge of the roof, staring off into the night sky. After a short pause, he glanced over his shoulder. "See you around, Clark."
The Dark Knight jumped off the roof.
