Excellent video on compassion and entitlement in watching shows like Critical Role.
“Know when you’re trying to order a hotdog from a hardware show.” Just because something isn’t your cup of tea, doesn’t mean it’s not intentional.
The text next to Vax in the screenshot says: "The rest of the cast gets frustrated when Vax goes off on his own either because they get FOMO or because they think he doesn't know when to stop and he's going to get himself killed, and also sometimes they're right but sometimes he just needs to check the surroundings to make sure they're safe, and also this is literally what rogues do and it's not his fault that D&D is designed in a way to only reward one player for being stealthyTM." (Video is from SupergeekMike's "Critical Role Demystified" series on YouTube, on Vox Machina Episode 32.)
This poor YouTuber is frustrated about recurring intra-party drama, but I'm just cracking up about how much this little let-your-rogue-be-a-rogue tangent sounds like a PSA about adopting incorporating a D&D class into your adventuring party without considering whether your party's lifestyle and environment are compatible with their needs, like if you were considering what dog breed to adopt.
"Do not adopt a rogue if you aren't prepared to handle the behaviors they were bred for. You adopted a high-energy, high-independence class that requires a lot of independent sneaking time to be happy and healthy, and you can't just expect to train these fundamental characteristics away. You've got to figure out how to work with the sneaking and stealthing behavior or he's just going to learn to do it when you're not looking (and it doesn't require much 'not looking'--you've gotta blink some time). Have you considered finding some good rogue enrichment activities that the whole party can participate in together, like maybe stealthiness competitions?"
