#JackedKirby - Hulk vs Thing Pt 2 Through the years we have seen The Thing and The Hulk battle it out many a times. The first time was in #Issue12 of the FF and it was kind of a draw... no clear cut winners or losers. But that would change the SECOND time these two titans would meet!!! #Issue25 of the Fantastic Four was published in April of 1964. This is significant because at the time the Avengers team book was getting off the ground alongside the FF. So Jack and Stan decided to blend the storylines a bit... In Avengers #Issue2 Hulk leaves the Avengers and in #Issue3 he battled his former teammates. But in #Issue4 Cap is found and made a member of the team to replace the Hulk. And when he finds that out he is pissed!!! So he begins a trip to battle it out with his former teammates. When he arrives in Manhattan he is seen by Jonny, who tries to stop him and is NO MATCH for the behemoth. But the Thing is up for the challenge... or is he?!? The battle between the Hulk and Thing is a doozy, teetering back in forth. But in the end the Hulk bests the pride of Yancy St... and he leaves in search of his teammates for more beef!!! This issue is an important one for a few reasons. 1) it's the first time Thing is bested in hand to hand combat... which surprises even him! 2) this issue is the first Tim The Thing mentions his Aunt Petunia, a long running plot in the FF books and 3) in this issue Stan actually writes the Hulks name as BOB BANNER and not BRUCE.
