Wanda still didn’t really know what to do with herself on the one weekend a month to visit her dad’s. Mostly because the one weekend a month usually got delayed until it was more like their quarterly overnight visit. Get there just in time for dinner, go see a movie, fall asleep in the car on the way back to his house, and have an awkward, silent breakfast together before Mom picked them up in the morning. The difference this time was twofold: Pietro was sick and couldn’t come this time, and Wanda's treacherous body had decided it was time she became a woman—yesterday. Aunt Marya had to drop her off with a heating pad and packet of napkins in her overnight bag. Wanda just wanted to die.

“Hey...Dad,” she said lamely. Part of her hoped it would get less weird the more she called him that, even after twelve years, but everything was harder without Pietro around.
