Do you ever read a book, and wish to be the main character? Perhaps you don’t want all their experiences, their pain and trials and such, but you want to know how they feel. How it feels to be powerful, to be in control of something greater than anything you’ve ever known. How would it feel to have power within your grasp? I have certainly wondered. Now, to be fair, I don’t have the ridiculous desire of tearing down cities or whatever, but I simply wish I could now how it feels to control something wonderful. How would it feel to be able to listen to the sea, and understand what it’s saying? To feel the currents without being in them, and to control their flow. To create something, anything, with water, water so powerful it could sweep you off your feet. Or light? Being able to create a burst of light in a dark room, or to be a light in a dark place. For you, for someone else, it doesn’t matter. Or if you prefer the dark route, what about being able to extinguish light? Extinguishing it just enough to make shapes, playing with it and making butterflies of light flitting around, small animals running about your feet. Perhaps you would make a barrier of light around someone you love, sometimes almost invisible, fluctuating with their moods, so that they glow when they’re happy, and so everyone can see their glow, not just you. Or what about fire? That would be quite a useful power indeed. Imagine controlling something so volatile, and never burning because you know it loves you and wouldn’t harm you. Playing with it like a pet, watching it jump from finger to finger ever-so-playfully. Imagine being warm on the coldest of nights, even when it seems there is no fire to be found, because the fire lives inside you and never leaves you alone.
