Red Sage Root - The Cardiovascular Disease Root
My favorite pastime is treasure hunting for superfoods and I am always excited when I bring back a real gem to medicinal herbs. Red Sage Root (Salvia militorrhiza) is a Chinese Medicine (TCM) called Danshen and highly valued for cardiovascular disease. After reading the TCM values for this root I moved on to NCBI ( National Center for Biotechnology Information ) to find there is plenty of research that points to the many medicinal claims made by TCM practitioners.

“ Various in vitro and in vivo preclinical experiments showed S. miltiorrhiza and its ingredients could lower hypertension, improve atherosclerosis and myocardial ischemia reperfusion. The identified active compounds, including Danshensu, salvianolic acid B, protocatechuic acid, catechin, protocatechualdehyde, tanshinone, tanshinone IIA, tanshinone VI, lithospermate B, cryptotanshinone and polysaccharides, are considered to be responsible for its cardioprotective effects through different cell signaling pathways. The results strongly support the notion that S. miltiorrhiza has beneficial therapeutic properties and has a potential of being an effective alternative remedy for the management of CVD. “
According to tests, red sage root is a WATER SOLUBLE herb and can be used in herbal tea mixtures. If you or your loved ones are experiencing cardiovascular disease this may be the perfect herb to add to your teas!
