Blackwing playing Monopoly
Friedkin: Gets super excited about buying Old Kent and Whitechapel. Goes to jail most rounds for rolling double.
Ken: Calculated, well-timed moves. Owns every train station and both utility spaces. Has all three green properties with hotels.
Priest: Banker. Openly steals money but no one ever stops him. Buys up the the last properties that complete the colour set people have been working on the whole game. Owns Park Lane and Mayfair with several houses.
Shades of Grey
Ken has always been morally grey. He wasn’t exactly a bad guy but he worked for bad guys if they paid for his IT expertise. But he didn’t get bad enough for Universe to want him dead until now. And he has always had tendency to Stockholm syndrome with the overcommitment to his new cause. When Bart kidnapped her he just wanted to run away and just went with it to stop being threatened with death. But once he believed in what she does he saved her and stayed of his own free will fully committed to holistic assassin mission. And then he got captured by Blackwing and fear, torture and gun pointing happen again. Once again he talks his way out of the danger (again and again whenever Friedkin loses it) but he also fully again commits to the mission once he learns what is really going on. He gains control by becoming the truest believer of them all.
When he started to rise to power in Blackwing Ken started wearing grey. My first thought this was a reference to the grey eminence as he was acting as the power behind the throne - a person informally exercising the power of a the leader of Blackwing through possessing great influence and/or skilful manipulation . But he stuck with the theme after taking over and getting rid of Friedkin (literally - he pushed Hugo out of the Universe but the guy tortured him and kept aiming guns at him so meh).
Even now when he is officially Supervisor Adams.
This is the same colour theme Amanda chose for her Rowdy 3. The one representing duality.
Remember, his life has been a mess ever since he met Bart - he was kidnapped, shot at, and kept imprisoned in a cab with an occasional shock treatment. When Bart complains that the world outside is confusing and irritating he says he can relate. His life has been a mess but he finally has control over his life back and the knowledge that lets him understand the crazy things that have been happening around him. Now he just wants to put them in neat boxes.
Of course Friedkin already tried and failed and so did the people before him. However, unlike Friedkin Ken actually read and understood the knowledge all these previous people collected on the projects. And he has personal experience in being grabbed and dragged by the whirlwind created by the scariest of them. He is much better at understanding what they do, where it takes them and how to talk to them - he pacified Mona and Bart and tried to convince Dirk that maybe he was meant to stay in Blackwing.
People take Ken words that in his world there are no good guys as an admission he is evil but he clearly also is not seeing himself as a bad guy either. He probably means there is no good or bad and he is just doing what is necessary to bring order to the chaos around him. And sure those are the words that could justify genocides but I’m hoping that staying on the edge will allow him to use Blackwing to help the projects like instead of hindering them in the end. That he will become the other side of Amanda’s search and will in the end work with her not against her.
Bart has granted him a reprieve just like she did for Suzie. Let’s hope Ken uses it better than Suzie did.
“Baby I’m preying on you tonight, hunt you down eat you alive”
"I anticipated that might happen. But you won't, will you? We're going to bring order to the universe. We're going to bring everything under control."
