The clouds had split open, and Number Five watched the heavy raindrops smack against his window. How perfectly fitting: the miserable weather matched his miserable mood. The constant sound of doors opening and closing, of footsteps up and down the hallway was grinding his gears more than usual, plus an incessantly squeaky bed make the nights far too long. The bags under his eyes were noticeably dark. The impending apocalypse was also slightly stressful, of course. Balls of scrunched up paper littered his floor, ideas and theories snuffed out almost as quickly as they came to light. He glared almost accusingly at his reflection, before turning to the door. Coffee. That’ll cheer him up.
Five made it to the kitchen in a matter of seconds. Thank God for his warping ability, it made avoiding people so much easier. Unfortunately, he wasn’t alone in the kitchen. He rolled his eyes in annoyance. Obviously it had to be one of his newer sisters. Acquaintance more like, he thought. Who was she again? Number Twenty-Five, Twenty-Six? He decided he didn’t care, he didn’t want a conversation, just a drink. Luckily he had warped behind her. Treading carefully, trying to avoid being heard, he tried to grab a mug off a shelf but his weary hands misjudged the distance.
“Shit!” He cried out as the mug smashed into numerous pieces on the hard floor.
Bursting bubbles. Not every drop, even drops filled with gas bubbles, wants to be spherical. These bursting bubbles would seem to defy conventional wisdom which claims that due to surface tension drops want to minimize their surface area and the minimal surface area of any given volume is a sphere. So drops are naturally spherical.
However, these gaseous bubbles, generated with microfluidics, start out as spheres but quickly morph to oblong shapes. What you can't see in the video is that the shells crack while under the lamp of an optical microscope and the bubbles burst through the cracked shell.
