Some updates on Lotto since the surgery
He's recovered pretty well, he overdoes it sometimes and needs more rest lately, which is expected. His personality is almost kinda back to normal.
The surgery + recovery process has been made more difficult due to him becoming more defensive, possibly more insecure, he lashes out (often triggered by food) and is getting along less and less with people as well as our cats. He's bit my dad once already and has been getting meaner with all of us.
I called the vet - you know, the one we just spent 15k on - and tell her all this. And her response?
"Have him put down."
I am livid. We spent 15k on a surgery that was meant to save him. Now they think he should be put down?? Not even offering bloodwork to check his thyroid or anything, not even considering the mental and behavioral toll surgery this serious can have on a dog. Put him down? Are you fucking crazy?
I don't know what to turn to. I've spent a few hours already poring over training resources to try and address pieces of his behavioral changes, and I can't find much of any resources on post surgery personality changes in dogs.
I need help figuring out what the fuck to do so my dog doesnt have to die.
